I hope this doesn't spoil it for everyone, but everyone on here seems to have seen the first one anyway...

After they get the body out of the well, Naomi Watts goes home and tells her son what they did. And then he says - in what may be the scariest part! - Why did you do that? She never sleeps!!!!!

then she takes him to the TV studio and has him make a copy, because if you pass it on, it doesn't kill you.

This is how they left it open for the sequel....They are making a copy for others to watch. SO she is still out there going after people...It never ended

BUT what i don't understand is that if by making a copy stops it...WHY was she still getting the signs that the girl was comming after her? As soon as she made the copy of the tape (which was pretty much at the beginning of the movie) the 'signs' that her days were numbered should have stopped! But they didn't until she helped the girl out of the well!

Her son only made the copy of the tape...so it leaves him open for her to still get him...IMO

Okay, tried to look up the reason for the discrepancy, and came across this site

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298130/trivia

This would've been a freaky ending!

Midway through the movie Rachel rents some movies and gets laughs from one of the employees over her picks. This led to an alternate ending, in which Rachel put the cursed tape in the sleeve for one of her rented movies and returned it to the store, where it ended up under 'employee picks'

And this is pretty scary for anyone who has the DVD

The cursed 'video' is available as an easter egg on the DVD. Select look here and press down and your cursor will disappear. Press enter. This has an interesting feature; your remote control is disabled. Once the 'video' has started playing, you can't stop it, pause it, fast-forward it, or return to the menu. Unless you turn off the TV, you're forced to watch the whole thing. When it's over, the DVD returns to the menu, then you hear a phone ring twice before you're given control over your remote again.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVED The Ring and since I love all things Horror - this movie was right up there on my Scariest Movies Ever List, right after The Exorcist!!!

Don't know if anyone else had a chance to catch it, but Sunday night after Sunday Stew was over on MTV they showed a 10 minute sneak preview of Ring 2 - it kinda went into a little more detail about copying the tape, turns out even that doesn't really save you..... so it started making a lot more sense after I saw those 10 minutes... Even those 10 minutes in my own well-lit living room though - SCARY!!!!!! I want to see it this weekend but I don't think it will happen for at least another week or so. I'm so happy they made a sequel to this movie - I couldn't look at a television the same after seeing the first one!!!!
