Ring CHIPPED!!!

Ring CHIPPED!!!

So a few days ago I noticied a tiny tiny chip in the corner of my princess cut diamond!

I thought that diamonds were indestructable!

I went to a local jewler who examined it and he said that once cut, diamonds actually chip very easily. The diamond has a warranty against chips but I would have to send the whole ring back and it may take as long as a month to get it back.

Plus since diamonds are unique, they guarantee that it will be the same value but they can't guarantee that it will be the same size (they could get a clearer smaller stone or a larger less clear one).

I don't know what to do. It's not a huge deal but if we decide to upgrade later the chip will cost us. On the other hand, I'm sentimental about giving up the diamond he got. He bought them separately and searched so long for this diamond!

arrrggg...I'm so pis*ed. I have no idea how it chipped and I don't know what to do!

So sorry!

This actually happened to my best friend's ring!!! Instead of changing her entire stone, she opted to have the ring re-cut in the area where it chipped. Her original ring was something like 1.54 ct center, and after they fixed it, it became 1.52 ct if I remember correctly. So she barely lost any size to it, but it was fixed and she didn't have to get a different stone.

Maybe this is an option for you?

I'd get it replaced.... mainly becuase I think the stone is weaker now that it has that rough edge... it may be prone to even more chipping... besides, you're right, you'd take a big $$ hit if you ever intended to upgrade....

at least you saw it!

i'm sorry your ring chipped! both suggestions are excellent, but if it were me, i'd get it recut. i'd get sentimental also knowing that FH took the effort to select THAT specific stone/band. if it gets recut then it's not exchanging it, it's just making sure it won't continue to chip. sorry hun hope it works out!!

aww!

I'm so sorry. You might want to rethink the setting. If it chipped once it can chip again! I would also look into getting the original stone cut down first - maybe just get a whole new ring. I know it stinks! I'm so sorry that this happened. My ring is bezel set for this reason. I am just too rough with my hands to have a delicate ring and stone. My diamond is surrounded by gold. It's going nowhere!

Don't risk losing the stone. look carefully at all of your options! good luck!
