Re: ring cleaning
You could clean it yourself. I clean mine by using a toothbrush with a touch of toothpaste. You get a foam going in your hand, then brush your ring w/ it. Then rinse. It comes out so shiny!

Re: ring cleaning
The tri-county flea market in Levittown has an entire jewelry gallery on the 2nd floor. some of the jewelers there will clean it for free while you wait.

Re: ring cleaning
Another way is to use Ammonia and warm water. Let the ring soak for a while. Rinse under warm water and gently clean with a soft bristled brush.

Re: ring cleaning
Bring it to any jeweler...they will steam it, spray it, whatever it is they do, and get it super shiny for a small fee...make sure you wait while they do it, it is a short process, and there is no need to 'come back later.' Sorry: I am paranoid of diamond thieves!

Re: ring cleaning
ammonia and stuff doesnt ruin the ring at all?
I can see that under the diamond needs to be cleaned, i just wasnt sure if jewelers would clean the ring, if it wasnt bought there

Re: ring cleaning
amonia is bad for the stone... do not use it. My appraiser told me this. She suggests just a little bit of Joy dishsoap and soft toothbrush. Be aware that everytime you brush the diamond, you ever so slightly loosen the setting so you should bring it to a jeweler every once in a while for a professional cleaning and to tighten the prongs.

Re: ring cleaning
My jeweler said to let it sit overnight in Windex and then wash it off in the morning with water

Re: ring cleaning
I bring mine to Gemport in Northport & they do it for free (they did our ring appraisals but I don't think they even know that).

Re: ring cleaning
i use a cleaner that I got from a jewelry store plus with the insurance plan that FH got with the ring every six months I go to get it cleaned. But otherwise any jewelry store will clean a ring for you even if you didn't buy it there. most do it for free.

Re: ring cleaning
I bought Tiffany jewelry cleaner - it's amazing. I wouldn't get it professionally cleaned too often if it's platinum - it'll wear away at the band until you don't have one left.

Re: ring cleaning
I got my ring at Elsa's and asked Elsa about this whole big thing about if you get your ring cleaned alot it wears away the platinum... she said no - if you buff a gold ring it will wear away after time, but a platinum ring is fine.
A normal ring cleaning is fine for any type of ring.

Be careful with the toothbrush technique....if the bristles are firm, or the ring is set a little loose, it my loosen the setting even more. use a child's starter toothbrush.

I use jewelry cleaner every 2 weeks. I got it steamed once at the mall while we pretended to look at wedding bands though!
