I know this has been discussed before and I'm sorry for asking but how many have your ring insured? FH and FMIL wanted me to have it insured when we first got engaged back in June and I never did. Is it too late now? Can it go under my parents homeowners insurance for now?

Re: Ring insurance
Its not too late, I did mine a couple months after we were engaged and it didnt matter. And I have mine under my parents policy and its only like $100 a year, so you should have no problem doing that! HTH

Re: Ring insurance
It is never too late, but it is smart to do A.S.A.P. just in case anything happens. Anything can happen.

Re: Ring insurance
I recently reactivated my Renters Insurance because I wanted to make sure if anything happened with my ring, God forbid, that it was covered. During my 'research' I found out that unless you have additional insurance for jewelry, you are usually only covered for $1,000 (this is for Renters and Homeowners insurance). My agent confirmed this information for me. So, I am in the process of adding to my policy to cover my ring. I was told it would be about $28 per $1,000.
By the way, does anyone know if you should insure your ring for the purchase amount or for the appraised amount? My agent said not to overinsure and insure for the purchase amount only, but I dont know if that sounds right....what have others done?

Re: Ring insurance
I think I need to do renters insurance as well and then get my ring insured. Who do you use?

I just use who insures my car..Allstate. That is who I have my renters insurance with.
But I am thinking of going with 'Jewelers Mutual'(I think that is the name) to insure my ring.

Re: Ring insurance
Ok...there are a few steps about getting your ring insured...first have it appraised by an APPRAISER not at a jewelry store who say they 'appraise' jewelry because it's not accurate at all. Go to the Jewlery Judge...they are in Garden City. if you google them they have a website. Then after you have the appraisal report, go to jewelersmutual.com. And it's not that expensive to insure... for example my ring was appraised at $20,500 and i pay $230 a year. So i think it is WELL worth it! Let me know if you have any questions!
