Ring Insurance

Original post by meganj725

Hi Ladies -

I have been slacking on getting my engagement ring insured...I know I know!! I looked online and I saw a site called 'Jewelers Mutual' but I am a little hesitant to get my ring insured online. Does anyone know any other places that you physically go to and what you need to bring with you (ring, appraisal) ? Or if your car insurance carrier does it?
Thanks for your help :)

I have jewelers mutual insurance.
.
My cousin is an insurance agent and he registered it for me.

I haven't had to cash in on the insurance (thank god!) but they have been very easy to deal with for everything else.
The ask for 10% of you appraisal as a yearly fee.

Whoa! I have Jeweler's Mutual and we're not paying anywhere near 10% of the appraisal value. We're not even paying 5% of the appraisal value.

yes you are right ... that was a type-o lol

We just added ours to our Homeowner's Insurance. We just had to fax them my appraisal. It was easy

I got mine insured through Jewelers Mutual. The place where my ring came from recommended it. If you add the ring to your renters/home owners, and you move, and something happens to the ring while your policy is being switched from one place to the other, your ring won't be covered.

This! And my insurance broker said that it's not the best idea to go through renters/homeowners insurance because of what they would actually cover, if there is a claim (to either your home or the ring, god forbid) etc. JMO though

I went through my homeowners....it took quite a while (4 months) bc my company wouldnt cover it and my broker thought that was ridic and tried to rerate my house with other companies. THe rate seems to be about %1.

It actually worked out better bc my new homeowners policy is $500 less with the ring than before without it!!!!!!!!

My ring is also insured through Jeweler's Mutual, the jeweler actually recommended it to FH. It's legit, no worries.

My ring is also insured through J's M. It cost us like $90 for the year to insure my ering.

Jewlers Mutual. They allow you to go to any jewlery store to replace your ring or diamond. My Insurance company said I had to use their jeweler.

BTW: A phone rep will walk you through the entire process if need be.
