I have been slacking on getting my engagement ring insured...I know I know!! I looked online and I saw a site called 'Jewelers Mutual' but I am a little hesitant to get my ring insured online. Does anyone know any other places that you physically go to and what you need to bring with you (ring, appraisal) ? Or if your car insurance carrier does it? Thanks for your help :)

Re: Ring Insurance
FH got the appraisal for the ring/diamond when he bought it and then I scanned it and emailed it to my car insurance provider. my agent added it to our renters insurance.

i've heard good things about Jeweler's Mutual ... but i don't use them ... mine's insured through my car insurance company.
It's about $200 per year, i believe.

I have not insured mine yet either. But when I spoke my agent about it....he actually said I could either go through him or jewelry mutual so it must be a ligit site.

Re: Ring Insurance
I had to get a seperate policy for it -- I went through State Farm and it was based on the price of the ring appraisal. The home owners insurance wouldn't cover it because it was over $5k.

That's weird
Unless they mean to take out a rider? Mine was appraised at $8k...

Re: Ring Insurance
I went through Allstate and they were great. The agent is a friend of a friend. Let me know if you want his information.

Re: Ring Insurance
we brought it with all the paperwork from the jeweler to Allstate in Wainscott, that is the closest to us, I would suggest you try All State, or who you have your home owners/ renters policy with.

Re: Ring Insurance
I used Jeweler's Mutual and did everything online because I wanted my ring insured from the second I had it. I read a lot of reviews online that were positive. Super fast and easy and reasonably priced.

Re: Ring Insurance
I got mine insured through Jewelers Mutual. The place where my ring came from recommended it. If you add the ring to your renters/home owners, and you move, and something happens to the ring while your policy is being switched from one place to the other, your ring won't be covered.

Re: Ring Insurance
did it through my parents home insurance, it was 165 for the year. BTW when you do get insurance for your ring, make sure it is 'ON LOCATION' insurance this means that you are not just covered in your home, it covers anywhere in the world that you lose it, for example on your honeymoon somwehere. a lot opf insurances only cover theft in your home. not necessarily loss in another location.

Re: Ring Insurance
I used my car insurance place (Allstate). I just faxed over the paperwork that came with my ring and chose to insure it for the amount we paid for it, not the appraised amount which is much higher. If you get insured for the appraised value it costs more.

Re: Ring Insurance
I have jewelers mutual insurance. . My cousin is an insurance agent and he registered it for me.
I haven't had to cash in on the insurance (thank god!) but they have been very easy to deal with for everything else. The ask for 10% of you appraisal as a yearly fee.

Whoa! I have Jeweler's Mutual and we're not paying anywhere near 10% of the appraisal value. We're not even paying 5% of the appraisal value.

Re: Ring Insurance
My ring is also insured through Jeweler's Mutual, the jeweler actually recommended it to FH. It's legit, no worries.
