please post the price difference between your appraised value (from a real appraisal, not the value your jeweler gave) and what your FHs actually paid for your engagement ring
you don't have to put the actual prices if you don't want ... but please share how much the diff is

My e-ring was appraised a bit lower then DH paid. The appraiser said it is because it is a 'name brand' and you often pay for the name. My wedding band was appraised for a few hundred dollars more then the cost. DHs wedding band was appraised for a couple of hundred dollars more then we paid.

I work for an insurance company and an e-ring should NEVER appraise for less than you purchased it for no matter the name brand. If the jeweler will not take back the ring and give you what you paid for I would put in a complaint with the BBB. You actually may have problems insuring the ring.

Mine was appraised for about 7k more then what FH paid. When buying a diamond, you should always have them put on the reciept, 'can be returned if not appraised at/or higher then what you paid!' You may have trouble insuring the ring now...

I have two appraisals. One is for $10k more, the other for $20k more. To insure it is ridiculous.

you should go get and indepent appraisal from someone else.
As for my ring it was 22K more than mine, but i also work in the store where i got mine. so i got it bascially at cost.

Mine appraised for almost 3x what he paid. I never understood this or how it worked, so this post is super interesting to me! However, we did NOT insure it for the appraised price b/c it would've cost a fortune. We insured it for the price paid.
