Is this the thread that is supposed to start drama????????????

Maybe the comment 'normal size' will? What's normal to me may be huge to someone else, and vice versa ....

Dont know what normal is either...I define normal as 1 ct? But that is JMO. My

I get so confused on the whole Cut Clarity etc thing. What is the cut again?

A lot of people confuse cut with shape, but cut really refers to the proportions of how the stone is cut. If it's too shallow or too deep or if the table (the top flat surface) is too big or small it affects the way light is reflected. This in turn affects how white it looks, how much it sparkles, etc.

Here is more info on cut

When you get to fancy shapes it's more complicated because there isnt the same standard 'ideal' cut. There is a little more for princess than other shapes, but in most cases you either have to learn alot about the different proportions or just see the stone in person.

also, the importance of the 4 Cs varies by shape. an emerald cut diamond has less facets and you can see imperfections more easily, so you need a higher level of clarity to be eye-clean

hope this helps

Thanks. I always think of the shape as cut myself. Now I know better

honestly i could care less either way..carats, clarity, color, blah blah..what means more is what the ring symbolizes..it could have been I3 clarity z in color and it wouldn't of mattered..id love him the same

Absolutley!!! It's def the commitment that a ring symbolizes not the price tag (unless of course you are gonna wear the tag on the ring ).

lol totally! I told fh i didn't care what ring i got..cause to me it didn't matter...i already had the most important thing of all..his love

and its funny talking about the so called 'worth more' being this way..blah blah..thats only important if you were thinking of selling it or something..I would hope you would have the ring the rest of your life because of the commitment it symbolizes..i never understood that concept of 'worth more'

Yeah I guess that is prob not the best term to use. I think that everyone's e-ring is invaluable to them.

ETA - I waited over 10 years for my 'symbol of love' so mine could have came from a cracker jack box and I would have been DELIGHTED

lol i even told fh he could got me a cz to save some money! he laughed!

it really didnt matter to me, i was happy just to get engaged and to be planning the rest of my life with he person i love!

from what your OP said, i dont think there is much of a difference in the letters you stated at least not to the naked eye, however, I have heard that you can tell with the naked eye if a ring is VERY flawed, (honestly i dont know much about the 4 cs either so i dont know what letter a quality diamond on a more flawed level would be)

Generally anything up to SI2 is supposed to be eyeclean, although some SI2 are not. Anything lower (I1, I2, I3) means visible inclusions. Most jewelry stores dont carry stones with this low clarity, but a few do. Also some places lie about the stats and some companies (like IGI, etc) inflate the stats of stones they evaluate, so an F SI2 might really be more of an H I1.

Unless the clarity is awful though, most people probably wont be able to see even a small visible inclusion unless they are looking for it.

haha

nagging isnt the word i would hold up my left hand and point to my ring finger and tell him 'still nothing on this finger' - i prob did that about 1 time a day for at least 2 years haha a but FH wouldnt budge about finishing school and getting a secured job before getting engaged.. so we waited and now.. we are both so ready to just be married we are going crazy

I would love my ring if it were 10 carats or .10 of a carat, because I love my FH and what it symbolizes. Ideally I would prefer a better quality smaller stone, than a huge stone full of imperfections. I know you can see hardly any inclusions in most diamonds with the naked eye, but I have a good example of why I feel that way.

There is a couple who attend our gym regularly. He proposed to her and when she came in to show off her 'rock' I almost died. It is huge round, probably the size of a nickel on the top, but is so cloudy and visibly imperfect it almost looks like rock salt. I was like 'oh its beautiful' !! She told us that they went ring shopping together, so its obviously what she wanted, I just don't know why

I cant even begin to tell you girls what I put poor FH through. However, in retrospect, we started off very young (high school sweethearts) and I'm very glad things worked out the way they did and i'm even more glad that I listened to my heart and not my head when it was telling me to give up and walk away

WOW...

Also one of my friends has noticeable piece of carbon in hers but she doesnt seem to care...she is just glad to have gotten engaged and married.

I chose the quality over quantity. That being said, (and here is where I sound greedy and non-sentimental, etc), I wasn't happy with my ring because it was so small.

September 26th will be 12 years and we will be married on October 11th. I told FH that I will feel really bad abandoning our old anniversary
