Re: Riviera

Was just rereading this thread as we have our mmeeting w/them soon.

They DO light up the gazebo, right? and that area somehow? it'll be about dark by the time our edding starts. Do they have little stringed lights as well?
Or are we to provide all that stuff?
TIA

Re: Riviera

Just to give you all a heads up in bumping this thing...

I was told I'd get a 'cake tasting' at Black Forest. It was a miscommunication, because I didn't get to taste any cake, goshdarnit! Of course, it was nothing but a message lost in translation over five people; the people at Black Forest were super nice and very professional, and I trust them a thousand percent with my cake.

But I wanted to eat some.

Boo.

:(

Re: Riviera

YOU ARE RIGHT! I THINK IT'S HORRIBLE THAT BLACK FOREST WILL NOT DO A CAKE TASTING. It's like unheard of to me. It makes me think their cake is gross. I wonder why they do this? Campbell's said they will let us only taste the red velvet and so did B.Forest - this is the cake we want to go with.

We are using Tim's - I LOVE THEM! They are so friendly and very are experts in flowers it seems like. They were even nice enough to write up two different orders with different price points for us.

We are going with the house DJ - Then Til Now, he's very professional in that he replies to all of my emails in a timely manner and did work with me on a few things price wise. He's been their house DJ for a while, so we're hoping he's cool

We are going with their recommended officiant - Reverend Sica.

Biggest regret thus far, wish we went with PatKen, I'm worried about our photographers that are not very popular or well known

HOTEL:
I'm a THRIFTY type. I didn't want to have my OOT (50% of our guests are from NJ, PA, FL) to pay for a pricey hotel and I felt that Farmingdale was a bit of a confusing ride-I'm a worrier, so we booked with Best Western. I had trouble with the Marriott returning calls, etc. Best Western gave us an amazing price $117 per room or something and they are in the hub, right near train, food, shops, etc. so we're sacrificing a nice fancy bridal suite for a cheap hotel, but I figure we have the Honeymoon suite for our Honeymoon and that will have to suffice FH plans on partying all through the wedding night anyway so he'd never get to enjoy it!

Cruise Control (they seem super helpful and have answered all 100 of my questions) is doing our limos and my FMIL is paying for that so we're just going to get a 3 Hour shuttle with them for after the wedding and it's not that pricey.

*I keep editing the spelling/typos sorry!

Re: Riviera

Best Western has a slew of inside rooms by the way. I just noticed that post and even though the Marriott sounds classier, the surrounding area looks a bit industrial to me. I was afraid that dark strip of road in Farmingdale at night would look intimidating to my out of towner guests. Ha ha. I know, I'm a nut... But hey, there's a pool and free bagels at BW. Ha ha ha ha!

Even though you don't get a tasting from Black Forest, do NOT worry! The cake is absolutly wonderful!! I recommend the buttercream frosting and canoli cream filling. It was the best cake I've ever eaten. I'm going to have them recreate the cake top for our anniversary every year so we can eat it again and again!!! haha

Re: Riviera

My thing is that I don't think I like wedding cake! We went to a super low-budget wedding in PA this summer and the cake was SOOOOO good. I hate to say it, it was probably a freaking BOX cake mix. We LOVED it. The icing was like Betty Crocker (like you get at Pathmark) tasting or something, ha ha! It was so good. I should just make my own cake. Ha ha!

I thought it was strange they didn't have a cake tasting either. I was going to get a cupcake to try since uit's like a cake, but they only had chocolate, which I don't like. My df got the canolli so we could at least taste that cream - it was really good! i DO love that they have the variety of layers so ours has a bit for everyone LOL!!!!!

We met with the Riveria and were so pleased! Both people we talked to were SO NICE and we were able to see it closer to the right it'll be at the wedding (ie... sunset or just after). Helps in the seating arrangements 'cuz the sheet they gave us isn't exactly right. We didn't have any questions... I feel bad but I never have questions LOL We were able to cut out the intermezzo and add onto cocktail hour instead (and it gives us a lil more wiggle room timewise)

Do you know if you can create a signature cocktail? i hadn't even thought about that lol But I think it'd be a cool idea.

Re: Riviera

First of all, I'm wishing so badly that we were able to have an evening wedding there. My FH requested afternoon and I even called back after we booked but it was too late, the night was booked. Now we're getting up at 5AM for hair and makeup :( Wah wah.

You should really have the bakery prepare you a cupcake. With red velvet, they said to call ahead and they could let me try a cupcake. I feel like this is one of the few perks you get from planning a wedding - CAKE TASTING. Ha ha. I'm such a zilla.

Everyone at the Riviera is awesome. I hope my girl is Michelle, she's been my point of contact, so I assume it's her on the day of our wedding, hopefully she is doing OK. She was having some health issues over the summer Poor thing. She is the sweetest!

My only complaint about them is why is the fountain $1000? A raw bar is $300. I feel like I have the wrong number or something. How can you have nonstop shrimp, yet chocolate is $1000?

Does anyone know if they have brown, taupe or burnt orange for linens?

Re: Riviera

They don't have brown. I am not sure about the taupe or burn orange but I don't think they do.

Re: Riviera

Our options were pretty much shades of white. there might have been an off-white ivoryish, but not really any colors that i remember.

They have burgundy. that's what im using

Re: Riviera

They do not have burnt orange and I do not recall seeing brown. They have a really nice burgundy, which we are using and it's fairly new. They also have a peach color which I guess won't work for you.

everyone raved about the food at my wedding. You can do a tasting before you book - that's what we did, and basically sampled cocktail hour food.

if you plan to invite 175, you are fine. I wouldn't go more than that in the room, and you will get some No responses. good luck.
