RK Bridal

Going to RK bridal to try on dresses tomorrow - yay! I've gone twice to look for dresses before, but for some reason, this seems more 'real'. Perhaps it's because now i have a better idea of what i like/dont like. Hoping we will see some Bridesmaid dresses as well.

So random question - what did you girls wear for undergarments when you tried on dresses - or did you not care? LOL.

Good luck! I didn't wear anything special bc I hadn't planned on going dress shopping that day but I read that you should wear a good strapless bra to try on dresses.

This is what I did. Remember you will be changing in front of someone and you want to be as comfortable as possible. Some places also give you a slip, 1 out of 3 places I went to did.

I just wore a strapless bra and panties. One place offered me a 'bridal bra', but it was terrible so I stuck to my own bra.

RK Bridal

Thanks ladies! RK Bridal is in the city - 39th Street off 9th Avenue. I've only been there once as a bridesmaid - and that was only for moral support for the bride. We decided already we'd be getting our dresses at J.Crew. From what i recall - there are a GAZILLION dresses to choose from. It's not like a Kleinfeld experience, but def more affordable. They also dont take appts for first time visits - which can be frustrating. I am getting there a little before they open tomorrow to avoid waiting on line too long.

Hahaha. It's basically a corset with a low cut back. But considering my 'ladies' are enormous, the cups kept flipping over. It just made me uncomfortable and embarrassed, when I'm usually not embarrassed being almost naked in front of other females.

Wait, you have to wait on line at RK? I was considering going there. Didn't know they don't take appointments. Do they have consultants to help you? Someone please explain this place to me!!

Re: RK Bridal

Hi, I got my dress here. You put your name down on a list when you get there, then you go search for 5 dresses you want to try and wait for your name to be called. You get a consultant that comes in the room with you. I highly recommend Olga if you get a choice. She brought me some more dresses she thought I would like based on my choices. I went on a Sunday morning and It started to get VERY crowded after a while. A manager-type woman started hassling my consultant because someone else wanted the dress i had on. I've heard it's much better to go on a weekday.

Other than that, my experience was great because I knew the dresses I wanted to try on. I recommend looking at their website and write down designers and/or style numbers that you like because there are so many dresses. Good luck

Thank you!! I would probably go on a weekday, since I have off from work on Wednesdays. I checked out the website, and there are so many it may be hard to narrow them from the website. But I know exactly what type of dress I want, so finding some that fit that criteria shouldn't be too hard.

Do they do things like a normal salon? Meaning, do they measure me? Do I get alterations done there? Did you find that it was like the experiences you found at other salons?

I'll try to get Olga if I can. Thanks again for explaining!!

I got my dress there and you only have to wait when it's your first time there. For your second visit you make an appointment and I was able to try on as many dresses as I wanted. It's definitely no frills but you won't be able to find the selection and prices anywhere else it the city. Good luck!

It's hard to tell what style the dresses are when they're in the plastic, so I would at least know some of the designers that have that style. They measure you, they call you when the dress comes in, you make an appointment to try it on, and then 3 alteration appointments. At other salons I've been to, the consultant mostly brings you dresses instead of you looking for them. Other salons are usually less crowded and more spacious (at RK you have other brides right next to you). But again, my experience was on a weekend.

RK Bridal

Ugh, i'm sorry to report that my experience at RK was NOT what i was hoping for. I got there at 9am (they open at 9:30) and there were already about 4 parties in front of me! It was complete chaose and very disorganized. I thought it would have been a little slower than a normal weekend because it was Easter weekend, but boy was I wrong! Luckily I was the 2nd bride to get a room but i could tell right away I was NOT going to like my consultant. Her name was Nadine and she couldnt have looked MORE unhappy to be at her job. I showed her some pics on my phone of some dresses that i liked (some were even from the RK website) and she said she wasn't sure if she could find what i wanted. I felt completely rushed and almost as if i were bothering her! I was literally in and out of 5 dresses in 20 minutes because they weren't what i was looking for (by the way, she hardly helped me put on my dress - only to zip the back!)

My cousin felt SO badly for me because I was nearly in tears so she called up Designer Loft which is 2 blocks away and they had an appt around noon. Wow - talk about a completely different experience! Its a much smaller shop and a little more expensive, but the service was top notch! Frey was my consultant and she made me feel so beatiful and special and i'm so excited to say that I think i found THE dress! it's a tiny bit more than what i wanted to spend, and I dont think i can find it anywhere else so I have to do some research before I pull the trigger. But i'm glad i ended the day on a much happier note!

So word to the wise if it's your first time - get to RK early. Know the exact brands and style numbers of the dresses you want. Do NOT go with Nadine (my friend used Jo last year and she was awesome). And perhaps start the day with a wine or valium LOL

Oh no! I'm so sorry you had such an awful experience! I think the consultant definitely has a lot to do with it. You should have said something to the manager!

It's definitely a 'no frills' experience so girls should be aware of that before they even step into this place.
