I went to RK Bridal - and honestly, wasn't wild about having to dig thru dresses and drag them to the dressing room.
Have you tried Wedding Attelier? It's on 5th & 17th (or thereabouts). They have high end dresses, great service, and only have one or two brides in the store at the same time.
Good Luck!

If you want to be waited on .... RK Bridal is absolutely not the place to go. You literally dig thru racks, put them on the side, wait for a dressing room and then you get a sales person assigned to you to help.
Try Wedding Attelier or Kleinfeld's.
Good Luck!

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
I LOVE RK!!!!
I got my gown at such a discount.... the stuff they have is gorgeous, and rather reasonably priced. I really didn't mind the service at all.... I actually dislike being fussed over/
Since I prefer classic styled gowns without too much bling, I was actually dismissed by several other salons (probably because bling = $$$) and asked at one high end salon 'but don't you want to look like a princess?' I'm 35 and a biochemist. I wear jeans and sneakers to work. do you think I can pull off 'princess'????
I highly recommend RK. I bought my dress there, and I didn't have to 'dig' through racks or 'drag dresses' to the fitting room. I went in with a list of dresses that I wanted to see, and the lady helping me out pulled the dresses for me, and bought them to my dressing room. I got a gorgeous dress at an awesome price, and I was not pressured into buying anything, nor was I made to feel bad about my budget, like many of my friends have felt at other 'higher end' stores.

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
some of the higher end stores arent that bad...i have heard some horror stories about how some got treated.
When i went to kleinfelds i was a bit worried about this but OMG it was the complete opposite...Judith who helped me never once asked me what my budget was, was not snotty at all...she went out of her way to help me, she even went searching the store like crazy for a cala lilly bouquet since im having those flowers, there were a bunch of bok's in front of me but she made sure to get cala's even though i said it wasn't necessary at all. Appointments at kleinfelds are an hour and a half, when i saw it was close to that i said omg we need to hurry and she said NO take your time dont worry about that. Infact i was there for 2.5 and they closed and i was the only one in there and they stayed late so i can purchase my dress(i had no clue they were closing at 6)
INFACT!!!!!!!! she convinced me not to buy a dress that was more expensive than the one i purchased, not just her but also the manager and even the veil girl. I was deciding between two dresses, one was a few thousand more but they all liked the other one on me including everyone i was with. She said listen this looks better on you and its less money, you really cant go wrong. I bought a kenneth pool but in the beginning i tried on a reem acra dress bc they were having a reem trunk show and she said try reem first bc if you like it then its good bc u get 15% off.
In the end i ended up going back a week later to add some things to my dress that i bought, these were my own choice and ideas to add something to the dress it was after i saw pics and realized something i wanted added, and it ended up being not that much less than the other lol but that was all me
They were extremely great and never were pushy, snobby or anything. She infact was trying to save me money and i was the one who kept thinking the other way about the purchase lol
sorry it was long but since i had such a great experience at kleinfelds i dont want everyone to think all the higher end stores are like that or at least not all the people there

I'm really glad you had a great experience at Kleinfeld's. I was definitely not trying to insinuate that everyone is mistreated at the higher end stores - I just want certain misconceptions about the 'lower end' stores to be cleared up. All I wanted to point out was that you can have an unpleasant experience at any store - 'high end' or 'low end.'

i know its not just what you said, but i know alot of girls feel like that about going to higher end stores, i was like that too...i was ready that day to go off on someone if they gave me attitude lol...I do understand some girls do have that experience, but its just stupid people who work there and for some reason it goes to their head.
And yes no matter where you shop it can be good or bad...My friend is a bm actually in a wedding next month and she got bm dresses there and LOVED the place and raved about it and the bride got her dress there too and i know she had a great experience.
Guess we were both defending each one...but yes its all based on individual experience

HAH portjeff-I know. I was actually told the same thing and made to feel a bit bad abou my low budget. they were never actually rude to me BUT they did ssay, 'Well our dresses start at 2,500 if you want something that isn't totally plain....' In other words, your money's not good here lady! Irked me but as I said, they weren't 'rude' just insinuated rudness.
I actually went to every high end store in manhattan and actually bought my dress at RK bridal. So I can give both ends of the spectrum here...
It really depends on the experience you want and what you are willing to pay for. I do not recommend RK to be your first stop when you still have no idea what you want in a dress, because as others have pointed out, they are set up as a warehouse and you basically have to know what you are looking for before you start combing racks or you end up spending two days weeding things out as I did, and that was with help!
I would reccomend the higher end places to help you narrow down your favorite designers and what you might be wanting in a dress; style, color, price range, etc. THEN when you have that info, definetly go to RK because the prices are WAAAAY cheaper. Someone at MACYS and at one of the higher end places-think was theDesigner Loft actually, both said RK is their biggest competitor because though you do not get cushy walls and carpets, you DO get the same dress these designer places do for much less. Case in point; I was looking at a Watter's dress in Designer's Loft that was about 1,800 dollars. Or 2,000-I forget now. Some lace netting with a sweetheart neckline. Anyway I went to RK Bridal and my saleslady (Glinda-she is THE BEST! Found THE dress for me in less than 5 minutes as soon as I explained what I really liked) found that same derss for me-1,200 there andguess what? She told me something the other place hadn't-that for outdoor ceremonies and weddings, netting is a BAD IDEA unless the holes are teeeeny tiny. Said she had a bride who bought it then came back after wedding upset because she ahd gotten MOSQUITOES caught in it! Attracted all the knats at night on the lake where she got married.
She was great. HIGHLY reccomend her because she has some attitutde but unlike the others, she also ahs taste. She never tried to upsell me as I found some did in higher end stores. I looked at Watters dresses and et the one she pulled for me (THE dress) cost HALF of what those did-she just wants her brides to be happy.
Anyway, if you do go, stay away from OLGA. She is terrible! Mean and so opinonated but never listens to what you say and never explains her own choices. Just bad news. Make the appt with Glinda and go EARLY is possible to avoid the crazy rush.

I had a GREAT experience with Olga and would highly recommend her. I found that she was not opinionated infact she didn’t want to give me her opinion until I decided because she said it was my decision and didn’t want to get in the way. I thought she was great to work with!

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
I also got my gown from RK Bridal and worked with Olga. She is FANTASTIC to work with. The 1st day that I went....yes I went through the racks mysel and dragged them to the side but I wasn't bothered by that at all....it was a Saturday and they are EXTREMELY busy on Sat. The second time I went a few weeks later on a week night, Olga not only remembered who I was but which dresses I was interested in trying on again....She went throught the rcks herself, found them and carried them... I did absolutely nothing. Needless to say I loved working with Olga and recommend going to RK on a week day or night because it is much less crowded.

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
I also went to RK and had Olga help me and she is the sweetest woman!! I took a day off of work and got there right when they opened on a weekday (because I'd heard weekends are crazy there), she started helping me right away, I kept picking all these dresses I'd seen that I liked. Well, all the ones that I liked, just looked horrible on me. So she went and picked 3 dresses and told me just to try them, even if I never would have imagined wearing a dress like that. Turns out, I loved all three, and ended up ordering my dress that day!

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
wow!!! everyone either high end or 'normal' price end had such great experiences. That is good 2 hear!
I personally went to wedding atelier and was so dissapointed that I wasnt allowed 'to view their dresses' I had to trust the sales girls opinion. While i waited (freezing in my undergarments) she went off to look 4 a dress SHE THOUGHT I would like. After 10 minutes of just standing their while i waited. (so boring) I got dressed and left. I am a girly girl. 1/2 the fun is looking threw racks and racks whether in a warehouse or highend boutique!!
I say stay away from places who think they know more than you about what dress you want!!
RK was set up like a warehouse but at least you as a bride still have a say in what you try on!!
I did have a fabulous experience at Kleinfelds and might end up getting my dress there. They were pleasent and give you the cutest robes to wear while you look threw their dresses. SO MUCH FUN!!!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! I definitely think you can still look amazing without spending a fortune.
Me personally, am a clothes lover. But I will say this. I would rather save 2,000 and go 2 RK bridal. When i am in Italy on my honeymoon. That 2000 will sit nicely in my pocket as I shop @ Gucci & Prada hahahahaaa
that vent felt so good..! LOL

i think this depends on the individual...ive heard people having bad experiences and ALL types of bridal stores, expensive or not...I had a great experience like i said before at a high end store and never was asked about a budget, never even told what their dresses price range was, i knew bc of the website...I am the one who went a bit crazy and she was trying to help me save some money.
I loved the experience...i went with 5 people, they all got to put their things away in the big dressing room, then outside by the big mirror where i tried on clothes, they all had a big couch to sit on and stay comfortable, everyone i was with had such a great time, they were talking to everyone there and they loved the service.
The dress I bought, i had not seen on the racks, nor did i know of it...i had asked for certain dresses...The manager said i have just the dress for you and brought it out to me, i would've never had this dress if they didnt actually help, see what i liked, asked questions...they talked to me about what will go well on my body, with my heigh weight, body type and everything. The dress i liked before that one, honestly wasnt the most flattering on me but i loved the dress it self, if it werent for them i wouldve yes bought a beautiful dress but not one to flatter me best.
No matter where you go shopping, theres always an employee somewhere that will have an attitude

Re: RK bridal & Designer Loft
I got my dress at RK and yeah, I hated having to go through the racks, but I didn't lift a thing! Nicole helped me out with everything! She was great. I compare them to other smaller boutiques and the service was the same. It's just a matter of when you go. Obviously, weekends are the worst because of the rush of so many brides. I went on a holiday, I was the first one there, by the time I finished trying on my dresses, the store was crowded! Now that Easter is around the corner, consider going during the day on a weeday, or in the evening. Don't give up on them, it may seem like a needle in a haystack, but I'm sure you'll find the dress amongst the millions! Also, if you have the pictures, the girls will just pull the dresses out for you, you don't have a thing to worry about. Good luck
