RK Bridal in NYC.. opinions needed and an explanation on what no frills means please.
I finally found the wedding dress that I love. I was told the dress was $1350 which was over my budget so I decided to call RK Bridal in the city and the price I was quoted was about $400 less, which to me is a huge difference.I have done searches on RK, but I'm a bit confused about what the no frills way of purchasing means.... do you mean it is an imitation of the dress or is it that I have to measure myself and take it elsewhere for alterations?
All I am concerned about is that it will be the exact dress and not a imitation.
Also, I was told it could be in within 3 months, but I'm getting married in 8.... should I wait to purchase it or get it done now?
Thanks for all your help!

Mishy,I bought my dress there and I assure you they ARE originals from the manufacturer. I think the no frills thing may be internet orders or like you said no alterations and you size it yourself.
Did they say how much more the dress would be if you didn't do the no frills option?

No, I actually didn't even ask them about alterations or no frills options... I just read about that. I guess the best thing for me to do is call them back and ask. The man was very nice on the phone. Thanks for getting back to me, I'm glad it will be the original and not imitation. Thanks again!

The no frills policy means that they will not do your alterations or store your wedding dress. Once your dress arrives at the store you must pick it up and go on your way.

Re: RK Bridal in NYC.. opinions needed and an explanation on what no frills means please.
I went to RK and I have the sheet about this on hand. So here's the info...Basic Service:
1) They do the measurements and help select the proper size
2) When the dress arrives, you can try it on at the store and if you need alterations, you may user their in-house tailors at your own cost
3) Alterations are not included in the price of their dresses. Typically, they do not exceed an additional $50.
No Frills:
1) You select your own size based on the size chart of the manufacturer with no input from RK
2) You must use your own tailor for any alterations
From the sheet, it looks like the 'No Frills' applies to bridesmaid dresses and not bridal gowns but I'm not sure. It's probably best to call.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Can I ask you, do you think I need to call back to ask if the price quote is different depending on whether I go with no frills or not? I would rather have them measure me so I know it will be perfect.... the price quote should be the same regardless, correct? Thanks again!

Re: RK Bridal in NYC.. opinions needed and an explanation on what no frills means please.
The price may be different with no frills. When I went to order my Maggie gown I had a cheaper price from another store out of state. RK said that they would match that price if I had proof of the price quote. I brought in all of the proof and I was measured. When it was time to put down the down payment I noticed the price was higher than the price match. I was told that in order for them to match that price I would have to get the no frills service!!!I decided against purchasing my dress there because this policy was not fully explained to me. The whole point of going there instead of the other place was that I wanted them to hold the dress and do the alterations. In addition, the alterations for the bridal gown were not included in the higher price and were capped at $225.

Re: RK Bridal in NYC.. opinions needed and an explanation on what no frills means please.
Hello. I think the no-frills only applies to BM dresses but I would call and check. As far as lower prices, I do believe them. They will beat any price. MY friend bought hers their a couple years ago and she searched the internet and found a lower price on her dress. RK verified the price and beat it for her with no problem.
I know three people who bought their bridal gowns there. The first two had no problems and highly recommend the place. The first girls said her dress came in in less than a month. The third girl (my friend's fiance- wife now) had a problem but it was more the mfg's fault than RK's. She tried to get her gown ordered and fitted quickly..the dress came in quickly but it was the wrong size (she is extremely tall) the dress was too short. The mfg than didn't send the new right size dress in time for her wedding. So four days before her wedding RK scrambled around and somehow got the too short one to work for her. The girl told me she wasn't upset at RK b/c she thought they really tried hard it was the mfg who really screwed up.
I totally planned on getting my dress there for convenience for me (Location) and b/c of price. Unfortunately, I found this dress in a couture shop in LI and RK didn't carry that mfg..so I couldn't...If you go and try on dresses get Gilda. She is an older woman with lots of experience and so sweet to me. I went there three time to try on dresses and worked with her twice.
I also bought all my BM dresses there. So far so good. Five of my six girls are using no-frills. The one that is using the regular stuff hasn't went for a fitting yet so I cannot comment on their alterations. They told me the dresses would take 3 months and they took about 2 (some less than a month). PS MY BM are all wearing different style dresses.
I have also been in bridal parties that bought their dresses there and had no issues.
Let me know if you have questions.

I also thought the no frills policy was only for BM dresses, but when I went to place my order I was told otherwise. They will definately meet any low price that you can prove, but if they do you must pick up your dress and get it altered elsewhere. If you know a good seamstress then this is not a problem.

Re: RK Bridal in NYC.. opinions needed and an explanation on what no frills means please.
Thanks girls! I did call them and I was given an even lower price for no frills, which made me happy so if I decide to go with their alterations and measurements, the price is STILL $450 lower than out here on the Island. I am thrilled. My only fear now is ordering the dress and it coming in too early... is it safe to store in a closet in the house? Will RK keep it there until I am ready (if I use their alterations?)
Thanks!
