Romantic Hotel/B&B suggestions in NE?

FH and I want to have a romantic weekend getaway.

Can you recommend romantic hotels that are driving distance from NYC?

FH and I stayed in the Cabernet Inn in North Conway, NH and it was very nice. It's a little bit of a hike, I think around 6 hours, but it was very quaint and it's a beautiful area. I love NH!

Depending on how far you are willing to drive, I can help you. FM me. I live in Boston.

dh and i went to newport, rhode island for our mini honeymoon. it was the best time - just what we needed at the time - romantic, fun, relaxing. and it was only 3 hours away from queens.

we stayed at the bayberry inn. it was wonderful. all the rooms have hot tubs and fireplaces. so nice! i hightly recommend it.

Belhurst Castle in Geneva. It's a bit of a drive from NYC, but lovely.

I would stay in the Vinifera Inn section, though, and NOT the Castle. Even though the Castle is considered more expensive, the Vinifera Inn is actually nicer. All rooms have a fire place and a jacuzzi (and a two person shower). I know it sounds cheesey, but it's honestly not at all.

(They're both in the same building, though - The 'Vinifera Inn' is just the newer section)

Check out www.belhurst.com

It's a quiet area this time of year, so if you're looking for major nightlife, this probably isn't the place for you. If you're into wine, though, there are TONS of wineries and vineyards in the area for tasting / browsing. Almost all are open year round, too.

Does it have to be New England?

Warwick, NY has some great B&Bs, including the Peach Grove Inn (which I would highly recommend).

Well this weekend FI and I are going to Skytop in the poconos, and it is beautiful. Its this mansion on 6000 acres with inns also available and cottages. They have activities such as ice skating, golf course, and a couple of other things i forgot, a spa, the food is amazing. Our room also has a fireplace. You can look it up, just put in skytop.com or skytop in search.

It is a bit expensive though

Originally I wanted it to be like 2 hours from NYC but I would be open to further places as well.

Plus I could just add it to the must visit lists! We could go next year as newlyweds.

I love the idea of being a newlywed.

Skytop in the poconos is 2 hours away. If you go when theres no traffic it will be less than that.

Sise Inn or Martin Hill Inn

Both are in Portsmouth NH which I LOVE and have going to since I was a kid. It is beautiful and just across the border in Maine is outlet shopping!

I took FH there this past October and he loved it! He actually wants to consider moving there in teh future!

Check out Hoboken or Jersey City. I've lived in Hoboken for 4 years (b4 moving to LI with FH) and the hotels over look the NYC skyline. It's so nice!

Has anyone ever been to the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY? They're running December specials.

I don't think so - a similar kind of place though...Well, I decided to book two nights for next week so I'll let you know how it was when I come back. The price includes two full breakfasts, two dinners (men have to wear jackets and women dresses or skirts), ice skating, snow shoeing, cross-country skiiing (if there's snow), and whatever other activities are going on. Our room has a fireplace and balcony. I'm excited! The pictures look gorgreous on the website.
