My parents also got me the new Roomba vac as another 'pre-shower' gift...
I didn't think it was going to be able to really get all the dog hair....my floors are spotless. Right now it's cleaning my bedroom while I'm in the office writing this!
I haven't had to take out my own vaccume in over 2 weeks...this thing even goes under the beds, sofas!!! I know you're supposed to still do a regular vacuuming like once a week, but I haven't had to yet!

This one my mother bought from Brookstone for around $250.
Because my dogs shed A LOT...I''ll empty it around 3 times as it does the downstairs, but it only takes a few seconds to empty it.

I looked it up on Fortunoff[s website and it is only $199.....pretty good. Maybe I will add it to my registry also

I think Roomba has been out for at least one year...the new model has a few more features I think (I have the new one)...it also has a remote control...but I have yet to use the remote, I just put it on and leave the room.
