Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
Hi Ladies, so it turns out two weeks (and 4 days) before my impending nuptuals, I will likely have to have either a root canal or a tooth extraction. Fortunately the tooth is in the way back of my mouth, but I am concerned about healing (especially swelling!) Has anyone had either procedure and can you advise on if I should wait to have the procedure until after the honeymoon?I am kicking myself for not going to the dentist in....gulp....nine years. I have only myself to blame!
TIA!

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
Since I haven't had either of those procedures done, I can't really help you. BUT, I would say wait until after your wedding and honeymoon to have any major dental work done. If you have any complications, you won't have enough time to recover. A few more weeks won't do any damage and you can recover in peace with no worries.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
Provided that there are no complications, you should be perfectly fine. I've have all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted and 2 Root Canals. The Root Canal will be sore for about 2 days. It's just the crown that you have to wait for usually. But if it's a molar, no worries. It's not like you'll see it when you smile.
If it's an extraction, almost same deal. You'll be sore and you'll have dissolvable stitches. You just can't sip anything out of a straw or do anything that would cause suction because that causes dry sockets and you'll bleed. Gross.
Good Luck.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
ive never had by dh has and for both is was a two or three day process to actually be comfortable. i wouldnt stress over it if you have to get it done before the wedding. i would actually do it so that way you are at least in no pain on your wedding day.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
I had a root canal. Basically, they take the nerve out and clean the canals. Once the nerve is out, you will not have any pain (or feeling) in the tooth. So I wouldn't worry too much about pain. You shouldn't get swelling at all with a root canal. If they pull your tooth, there is a chance you can get swelling. It should go down in less than two weeks, though.
I don't know what the reason is for these procedures but I woulnd't chance waiting until after your HM. The infection can get bad and cause you more problems in the longrun. Just get it over with.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
OK If you get a root canal in the back it may be a few visits before it is done and depending on how deep the root is you can be in pain - I had to take Vicodin's for 2 weeks during the process -If you arent in pain I would wait but it may start hurting right before the wedding then you would have to do something fast -

I've had 2 root canals, including one emergency root canal. After you unnumb you will be good to go. They put the final cap on in a week or so, but no worries, you can do everything but chew gum until then.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
I've had it all- root canals, extraction of wisdom teeth and a tooth toward the back of my mouth as well....I've had it all
It's ok. You will be fine for your wedding. Follow the aftercare instructions to the letter- ice 10 mins on, 10 mins off to minimize the swelling. In 3-4 days you'll be good to go and RELIEVED you did it so you can COMPLETELY enjoy your wedding and honeymoon.
Keep us posted.

Re: Root Canal Two Weeks Before Wedding
as mosty girls have said, a root canal should be good to go by the next day. take some xtra strength tylenol that day to be on the safe side. ask the dentist should you use ice to minimize pain or possible swelling - - when they work on the tooth they can tell to a degree if there might be complications where the ice might help.only other thing that was not mentioned was to be a bit careful to try not to eat on that tooth til the work is done. I had a temp wad of cotton in the opening between visits since he needed 2 days to work on the nerves. after that you get a temp filling til you see your regular dentitst. I was told it's best to wait about 2 weeks before you go for the cap.

Agreed! Definitely get it done before the wedding as if you don't, god forbid you have a problem with your tooth during your HM, you will be in pain and nothing to do about it (trust me...I am constantly having tooth problems - so not fun so I feel your pain!) With both the extraction and the root canal - you will definitely be fine in a few days!!
Good luck!
