RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

So in addition to all these wedding expenses, FH and I are now buying a house. Which is great but the reality is we really don't think we're gonna have enough money to go on a HM. I know I should be happy that we're getting a house here on LI but I'm so bummed at the thought of not having a HM. I've been planning the wedding for over a year, almost two by the time we get married. I'd really like to have a HM! Do you think it's possible to go anywhere for a honeymoon for around $1500? Maybe even less?

Any help or ideas are welcome!!!!

Check Curacao! It is in the South Carribean. The next island over from Aruba and becuase it's not well known, it's much more affordable!

We were there for a week last month and spent about that!!

We stayed at the Hilton (4 Star Hotel) and spent less than $800 each for Airfare + Hotel for 7 nights! Got the deal from Hotwire.com

Good luck!!

Go to the Poconos, or even Vermont for a few days. The hotels at ski resorts really discount their rates duringthe offseason, but its still really pretty.

Or there can be really good deals on trips to Vegas sometimes.

Re: RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

Absolutely 100%

There are cruises that leave out of NY/NJ... You can get a cabin starting out at like $500 each.. The best part.. cruises are ALL INCLUSIVE!!!

With all the wedding stress.. you both deserve a honeymoon - dont deprive yourselves. Im sure your tracel agent can work something out for you.

Good luck!

ETA: I'm not sure what happened, I did respond.

Anyway, at this point we're considering something very similar. We were thinking either Montauk or somewhere on the North Fork. We like it out there alot.

Wow that's a great deal! I may have to check that out... But does it get affected by the hurricane season? We're getting married in Sept.

I thought about a cruise but in order for us to avoid hurricane season we have to think about going somewhere on the west coast but the flights are pretty expensive.

Re: RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

I would second the cruise or maybe opt for a shorter HM in the US like Disney World, a spa resort (arizona has a lot), the poconos or niagara falls.

Also you can buy, borrow or rent a timeshare (you can contact the timeshare companies or look online for the rentals) - that might run you less and they're located in a great places too...

Re: RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

Do you know anyone who has a timeshare? My parents have one through Interval International (and I think RCI has a similar program) where they have last minute destinations for REALLY cheap. In Feb. we got a ski place for $325 for the week!! And you wouldn't be using the presons timeshare, just their account to book the place. If you are just looking to get away and don't care too much where, this would be great for you. Good luck, I am sure it is possible to get away for under $1500

We do know people who have a timeshare. I think it's through Marriott. Do you know if they do that too?

I'm not sure how Marriotts work, but sometimes they trade through II or RCI so they would be a member. It's definately worth it to ask

I believe Marriott does the exchange too... Marriott Vacation Club

Also, you can check out vacation rentals (like home in Aruba) - most people who own vacation homes down there rent them out and have a maid service. You'll end up saving on food cost and get all the privacy you like...

Re: RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

A HM under $1500 is completely possible. I just looked up a 6 day, 5 night trip from 9/25-9/30 in Los Cabos (all inclusive for $700/person including the flight) using Orbitz...

or try the Luxury Link to bid on travel and Sky Auction.

Both are legit and can have wonderful trip for less (I use them for random travel sometimes).

Good Luck.

Wow!!! You are the best!!! I've looked on those sites and it's always the air fare that kills us! I will check out Orbitz again!

And I will check out the marriott thing too!

Thanks!

Dont be bummed. Thats such an accomplishment being able to buy a house.
But as far as the HM is concerned check Cancun it's mad cheap and you can get a 5 day 4 night all inclusive trip for like 1000.- Check into it !

Congrats on the house

I will definitely check into Cancun. I was originally looking into Cabo and it just seems like it's out of our budget, especially with flights.

Thanks!!!

Re: RP from 06: Don't think we're gonna have a HM

CHECK EXPEDIA TOO, THEY HAVE PRETTY GOOD PRICES. AND DO A SHORTER TRIP LIKE 3 OR 4 NIGHTS. CHECK INTO SOUTH BEACH, MIAMI. I BOOKED W/EXP. 2 YEARS AGO FOR UNDER $300 EACH WHICH INCLUDED FLIGHT, HOTEL & CAR FOR 5 NIGHTS...
-IT IS DEFINATELY DOABLE THOUGH.
-IT WOULD BE NICE JUST TO GET AWAY FOR A FEW DAYS ALONE TOGETHER, AFTER YOUR BIG DAY & ALL THAT PLANNING.
