RP From NW: Cruises

DH and I are looking into going on a cruise with my parents, sister and BIL for this time next year. Anyone have any recommendations (cruise lines, ships, websites) None of us have ever cruised before.

I found one that ports in NY.Its Norwegian cruise lines and its a 10 day eastern carribean cruise. Do you think we will be bored going on a cruise for that long? Have any of you ever taken a NCL cruise? TIA!

ETA: its $900 a person.....Is that a good price?

I've been on 2 cruises, one on celebrity and one on princess. The one on Celebrity was out of NY to Bermuda. Its was great! We went for 7 days and there was always something new to do! I went as a nanny for the kids I babysit, and even finding stuff to do with the kids was easy. There were so many activities. It was a bit of a party at night, kind of loud if you were near the nightclub. But I would totally recommend a celebrity cruise!

i actually think thats a good price
and i don't think you'll be bored

we did a 7 night one out of new york last summer and had a blast

fh has gone on ncl before, and he said he had a good time..there was a lot of variety with the food, and he enjoyed the freestyle dining

hes not a big show person, so i cant help you much there

where does it stop?

I've been on all types of cruises and the last one I went on was a Princess cruise, 9 days to the Caribbean. You will have so much to do that at the end you will see that you might need more days! NCL is excellent too and the price is great!! Also, you probably know this already, but pack more than you need. You never know if you wanted to bring something and forgot it!

Enjoy your cruise!!!

Its not an ocean view, it has no windows but we figured we would only be in there to sleep anyway so we'd use the extra money doing something else.......like drinking!

Is there really no way to get a bottle of alcohol on the boat?

Re: RP From NW: Cruises

you are allowed one bottle of wine per person...

and i normally fill up poland spring bottles with vodka and put them in my suitcase- never had a problem!

room service is free so we normally order room service with cranberry and orange juice!

Re: RP From NW: Cruises

you just need to check the requirements about alcohol..each cruise has a different rule

and we always get interior rooms, because we never spend a lot of time in the room

Awesome!! Did you do this on a norwegian cruise liner? My DH is scared we'd get kicked off if we got caught!

Definitely put it in your suitcase. Since you're leaving from NY, there is no 'airport style' check in. But wrap it in something soft because they toss the bags around harshly...

Re: RP From NW: Cruises

Just a word of caution - my FH's father decided to try to smuggle vodka onto the ship and got caught, lol, it was so embarassing for my FMIL, she said they never got their bags but got a note on their door to come downstairs and they had to go to a room where all their luggage was and luggage of other people who had tried to smuggle booze on the boat and pick it up there along with a scolding. I mean, I guess that's the worst thing that can happen to you so if it's worth the risk go for it, but I keep telling him he's on some kind of security watch list on Norwegian now lol.

You'll love it, you wont be bored at all. we love to cruise. we cruise about two times a year. Im actually doing a norwegian cruise out of ny in march. If you want lots of activities i would either do carnival, ncl, or royal. $900 is a great price. and even if you booked it now and the price went down before final payment they will readjust the price. u just need to call them and tell them u saw online that the price went down. Doesnt hurt to put down a deposit. u can always get ur money back if u decide not to go by final payment.
