RP from07: Would you be mad/upset??? W/POLL

I need your help ladies to settle this debate b/c my mom and I.....
I am getting married on Nov.2-which is my 10 yr anniversary and we booked it years ago...
Now my brother and his girlfriend are looking at dates for 08 and they chose Nov. 2

Now I am very upset and I don't understand why they had to pick our exact day...My mom says I am overreacting and she doesn't see the big deal...

My question to you is Would you be mad or upset if your brother/sister got married on the same date as you?

that is a tough one. i think most of me would not be mad.

maybe a little perturbed but i would not through a big fit....
i mean it ***** that you have to go to a wedding on your 1st anniversary....

why dont you talk to your brother and tell him that you have major travel plans for your first anniversary... see if he will change it..

I would be mad if someone I knew, brother sister family friend WHOEVER, took my wedding MONTH let alone my wedding day! I would pull him aside and explain this to him. Tell him your honored but that you really wanted that day to be special and just yours...good luck

BTW, I am getting married the next day, but it's ok...we can share November 07

if it was the same year, hell ya! not the same year, not at all..... I'd be much more annoyed if they selected the week or month prior to your wedding.

I think it's actually sort of fun to share your aniversary with someone else. Besides, tt's not like aniversaries are events that everyone in the family celebrates together.....

but no one would EVER know - i feel that this is one of those weird bride things that we should share with each other but not necessarily with the person who upset us because it does sound a little nuts.

Whoa. I answered before I read it.

They aren't getting married the same YEAR as you are. I didn't realize that.

Nah, I wouldn't be annoyed. Same day, same year? Yes, I would totally get ticked off...but not if the years were different.

hey, think of it this way. You can always remind your brother when it's his anniversary so he doesn't forget to buy his wife flowers! And vise versa!

My brother and I got married one day apart, 1 year apart. It would be a bit odd to have it on the same day. A weekend has 3 days, couldn't they change it one day?

That is really tough. Maybe there is also a reason they chose that date to get married too. Before the get upset, I would discuss the situation with your brother, so both of you can hear each other out. I am sure there is some compromise that can be worked out or maybe you can figure out how that date can work for you both.

I think it's worth mentioning to your brother. It's weird and I would be bothered by it. I think it would really only cause a problem on your first year anniversary because you can't even celebrate it together you have to go to a wedding.

After it's all said and done - will it really matter?

It is kind of wierd that out of 365 days they had to pick the same one as you, but it wouldn't bother me.

I know of a family that the parents got married on april 29th, their oldest daughter got married on the same day and now my friend, who is their youngest daughter is getting married on that day too--I wouldn't be mad--i think I would be more mad if they decided to get married the month before me of the same year.

I would just wonder why they would want the same date! I would want that day to be special - therefore i would not have chosen the same day..

I wouldn't be mad at all. When I first read the post it looked like you meant the same year. But, if it's the year after your wedding I don't see why you'd be upset. Especially since an anniversary isn't exactly a family holiday. It's not like it would disrupt your and FH's anniversary plans every year for the rest of your life.

It is an interesting situation, but I don't think you should be upset yet. It is definitely one of those things you can tell other brides but not necessarily other people. Maybe you should calmly discuss with your brother why they chose that date. They might have a very special reason, but either way it is their choice.

Reverse the situation a little bit, what happens if one of your close friends got married 11/2/06. How would you feel if that friend was mad at you for having your wedding one year later?

HTH...sorry you have to be in this situation though.

I think i would be shocked more or less but I don't think I would be mad at my sibling for pciking the same date.

I wouldn't be mad. You'll have your day, and he'll have his a whole year later. And they'll both be special.

I wouldn't be mad at all. I personally don't think it's a big deal. Fh & I are getting married 2 days after my brother's anniversary date. They were married July 10th, 2004.

I wouldnt mind if they chose the same month...but the same day, only a year later I think I would be PO'ed. If it were like the same day 5 yrs later, no biggie, but 1 yr is kinda still like YOUR DAY. I would make a stink of it. I mean they have 29 other days in that month to choose from and 364 other days in the YEAR to choose from...why your EXACT day!
