It's British. It is supposed to be a sixpence, but they don't mint those anymore so I guess the dollar is a good substitute.

Re: RP- Has anyone heard of this?
I have heard this. We always put a penny under the part of the shoe that doesn't touch the floor. We tape it on.

Re: RP- Has anyone heard of this?
My FMIL was the one who told me this. She said she had a silver dollar in her shoe and by the end of the ceremony her feet are killing her, so her husband pulled the insole of her shoe out and place the coin underneath the lining. She felt much better after that.

never heard of it. But I'm curious, obviously this is from way back, so what do you do if you're wearing strappy, sandal like shoes?

Re: RP- Has anyone heard of this?
The last line is 'a sixpence for your shoe'. A tradition from oldern days ...don't remember exactly why it was done...I'll have to look it up again but thats the line..everyone always remembers the first four.
