IS IT BAD TO GO DRESS HUNTING WITHOUT MOM FOR THE FIRST TIME..WE HAVE WEIRD SHEDULES AND I NEED TO START LOOKING..PLUS WHAT IF I GO AND I FIND SOMETHING LIKE AT A SAMPLE ALE AND HAVE TO BUY IT THEN..IT WOULD BREAK MY MOMS HEART...WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO?..MY MOH IS HOUNDING ME TO GO LOOK AT DRESSES!!!

All I can say is that FH sister went without her mom and Mom was very hurt. If you have a good relationship with her just ask her if she would mind. Explain to her that you need to go and look. Otherwise, if you do go and cant ask her be careful how you tell her you went without her. She might be hurt...HTH...

i went without my mom, but i was just looking and didnt expect to buy one, which i wound up doing, and my mom was very hurt that i went without her.

My mom lives in FL, so I went with my SIL first and we narrowed the dresses down to approx. 5. Then my mom came from FL and my sister came from Massachusetts and we picked it together.

I went with my sister--not my Mom because she was in Greece at the time. My Moms philosophy is 'you have to feel beautiful in it--If you choose something you LOVE and your Mom happens to not be there, she will be happy knowing you're happy

I went without my mom because she thought it was just too early to go. And I told her about it and she was really upset! I had no idea she'd be so upset about it. If I had known it was so important to her, I wouldn't have done it

I think my mom may have come with me but only once. And I went like 10 times looking. So I think it's fine. If you find the one just tell her to come back with you to see what she thinks.
Some advise... Don't bring a lot of people and try to bring the same person each time. Everyone's different and if you don't have the same person to compare all the dresses you've tried it can confuse you.

I am going with my mom for the first time this weekend!!! We are both very excited and I would never think not to ask her, she is the one I want to come with me the first time but to each their own, whatever works for you, ya know..

I went with my MOH because my parents live out of state. It was so fun with my MOH...she is very honest, but not in a rude way. I really narrowed down what I like, what looks good on me and what doesn't. Then I went with my Mom. Let's just say that it wasn't as much fun I love my Mom, but she is, how can I say this nicely...Critical Every dress I tried on she said, 'It's a beautiful dress and would look great if you just lost some wieght' Who says that???? My Mom!!! I mean, I am only a size 8-10!!! So, needless to say, I will be picking my gown out myself... for my own sanity

This one is actually a touchy subject for me....I went by myself the first time I went to look at wedding gowns. I had told my mom that I made an appointment, but she and I were not seeing eye to eye about the wedding at that point. (I know that she was not thrilled with DF). Well after I went without her, she was VERY VERY UPSET with me. I only went to one store, but she told me afterwards that it was her dream to go dress shopping with me for the first time and that she would never get to experience it. My response was, if you were more happy about the wedding then I would want you to go with me. It was that moment she changed her tune. I think she realized what a strain it was on our relationship and that she knew then I was willing to go at wedding planning on my own. I wish I went with my mom for the first time, but I did not and cannot take that moment back. But having done what I did, has brought us closer together, so all in all it was a mixed blessing.

I went w/o my mom to look in VA (mom lives in NY)...she was a little sad I think but I didn't buy the dress until she came and saw it and that helped the situation.

I went without my mom twice, but didn't buy-- I didn't see anything. If I had I don't think I would have bought it though.
She is the only person I trust to tell me when something looks bad!
And. . . since she was there, she ended up buying it for me!

Oh i would have been disowned I think. I went with my mom and my aunt (mom's closest sister, has two sons so this was her only opportunity), and my mom wouldn't even let my MOH come at all!! Mother's live for this all their lives so if you have to wait a little while to be able to go with her (at least the first time) i'm sure it would make her feel wonderful. If you cant' work out a schedule at all, then talk to her before going...i know it's a pain, but she'll definitely appreciate it. good luck!!

i went with my mom first, and then with my mom and aunt. my mom took off work because she wanted to go so badly!
if it will mean a lot to her, go with her. you are getting married in june so you still have time to play with.
oh btw...when i bought my sample gown, they held it free of charge for 1 week as i decided. i don't know what they do at sample sales, but that is an option to ask about.

I wouldn't even think of going without my mom. The first time it was just me and her, no MOH. Don't let your MOH worry you, you still have time, and after the summer may be better anyway, the shops are probably mobbed this time of year anyway.
My mom's only regret was that we didn't go to more places!!! She had such a blast, I would feel terrible not bringing her.
