RSVP question - NYPD brides, please help

One of my good friends from grad school is getting married in Albany in July on a Friday night. My FI works with the PD, and as you all may know, they are a total pains in the a** when it comes to planning things, and where he is now, he has least seniority, so we have no idea whether he will get the day off or be able to take loss time until possibly the day before the wedding.

We both really want to be there for our friends, but don't know what to RSVP. Would it be best to RSVP that we can't go, and then if by chance we can, change the RSVP at the last minute, or RSVP yes, and then have to possibly cancel later.

Our other option is to RSVP for one (me) since I have the day off, but FI isn't thrilled about me traveling to an OOT wedding alone, especially since I won't know anyone but the bride and groom! TIA

Can you call the bride and groom and ask them what they would prefer. I would say you are both yeses but the moment he gets his schedule confirm with them that you will be coming or if necessary cancel.

I would RSVP for the 2 of you. W/ the NYPD you just never know... He might be able to do a double closer to the day to enable him to have the night off, or switch shifts with one of the other guys.

And, most places don't make you give a final count until the week of the wedding, so worst case scenario is that you could always call the bride the week before the wedding and tell her that you won't be able to make it. She should be able to adjust her final count in time.

I know it's tough being the FW of a NYC P.O.! (I am one also!)! Best wishes to you both!!

Talk to your friend about it.

We had around 15 NYPD at our wedding (3 in the BP!) and all of them made it without any problems.
good luck!

Thanks, I have talked to them previously about this possibility, and they say they understand - but I think its kind of hard to believe if you aren't related to/close with a cop.

Obviously we've had to do this before and the brides brother was also a nypd officer - and he wasn't sure if HE could get the day off, so she totally understood. This is just the first out of town one.

Of course we're prepared for the inability to give a head count since half our reception will be filled w/ other cops....so I'll probably be complaining in a few months myself...lol.

hi!
i think it depends on how their caterer works.... for mine, i have to give a 'final' count 2 weeks before... but i can add more people up until like a couple days before... so for me, i would rather have you RSVP no and then be able to add you closer to, instead of saying 'yes' and possibly having to pay if you have to cancel... i hope that made sense... LOL... i would ask them again and see how it works for them... good luck!!

FH and I had an OOT wedding....he just brought in the invitation to show role call and was approved for the days off he needed to attend the wedding. At the time he only had 2 years in and was the 2nd to last in senority.

Suggestion:
Have FH put in a 28 for the day, w/ a copy of the invite and tell them he is in the bridal party.

They will understand! My cousin's husband got called up to active duty in the Coast Guard (he's NYPD also) and we did. I mean who could you really be mad?

My dad, uncle and cousins are all NYPD.
