One of my oldest friends warned me today she is coming with her dog. Not a service dog, just a little dog who goes in a carrier. I said I am not sure venue allows dogs....she said no one will notice! This is at my California reception which is at a cafe with a deck. I think this beats RSVP with baby!

We were best friends for about 15 years...and then we drifted. She was mortally upset she was not a bridesmaid, and I have finally calmed her down after two months. She lives in LA, and has some sort of tiny dog rescue service. The venue is about 50 percent outdoors, on the waterfront,and we are not having assigned seating. It is in San Francisco where, I guess anything goes. She says she will keep the dog in it's carrier the whole time. Seriously, you need to tell her NO b/c she wont' get the idea any other way. The health code in CA is as strong if not stronger than the one in NY. I guarantee you that dogs will not be allowed in the service area.
You need to tell her outright NO and i would go so far as to find her boy friend and tell him that the dog is not allowed.

I would tell her that the venue is strict on their policy about animals (even if it's not true) and also remind her that some guests might be allergic to animals such as dogs and that you would prefer that she leave the dog at home.

puout your foot down NOW! that lady is INSANE!!!! first of all, most halls wont' allow dogs near food---health code violation. also, who knows what guests may be allergic or scared of dogs? and also, who wants to compete with a dog.. you and your FH should be the center of attention that day, not a dumb dog.
people like this with their dogs are just sooo annoying and entitled.

haha i would never allow anyone to bring an animal to my reception... i agree that u should use the excuse that the reception house will not allow it and yes EVERYONE will notice that you have a dog with u !!!
