Instead of buying baskets for our wedding programs. I decided to buy 2 unfinished wooden trays, paint them ivory and then use a rubber to stamp to put a border around the tray with our wedding date in the middle. I painted one of the trays, let it dry over night and then I stamped the four corners of the tray. I waited a couple of hours for the ink to dry and then I went to put the clear finish on the tray and the green ink ran. Needless to say I can't fix that tray. Is there any way that I can avoid this or should I just look for a celtic stencil. TIA and I am sorry if this is long.

Re: Rubber Stamping
the ink for the rubber stamps are probably water based....
i would think your best bet is to get a stencil and use paint then spray it with a clear coat.

Re: Rubber Stamping
Use stayz-on ink, you can find it at Michaels or AC Moore

Re: Rubber Stamping
I haven't tried the stay-z ink, but I would also consider lightly sanding the area where you are going to place the stamp so the ink has more to adhere to.
Also consider using a thinned down acrylic paint as an ink (technically you should you a specific thinner, but water is okay too). You can just press the stamp into a very very think layer of the paint and test it or you can use any sort of cheap paintbrush to apply a thin layer to the rubber stamp.
Acrylic paint will not run at all and you can always still use a clear coat on top. You can get acrylic paint from any craft/art store in a kabillion colors and price points.

Re: Rubber Stamping
instead of stamping with ink, use a thin coating of acrylic paint. Pour the paint onto a plate and spread it thin, then dip the stamp in. Once you let it dry, it won't run when you add the finish.
