Why do people think it's ok to ask how much you spent on wedding items? Not you girls, clearly you're asking because you're also planning a wedding. Someone in my office asked how much I spent on my cardbox and when I refused to tell her she told me she'd find out and wanted to know the website I bought it from, and she's not the first person to ask about $$$. I'm shocked Do you girls experience this?

Re: rudeness!
I've had people ask how much per plate and how much I'm spending on my honeymoon, but what I thought was the rudest was my male boss right after I got engaged asked how much DF spent on my ring and how many carats it was. Some people are just completely rude.

Re: rudeness!
omg my mom does this - and sometimes she guesses - and i get really nervous, i dont want to lie to her but at the same time i dont want her to know how much we are spending because she will either think that we are nuts or she will worry - but she really has no clue how much things cost either - so her guesses are always really really low

Re: rudeness!
I get this a lot about my purses. FH just bought me a new Gucci bag for my birthday that I have been lusting after for a long time. As soon as I bring it into the office everyone is making comments, 'oooh that looks expensive...' or some of the men will flat out ask me how much it was.
I hate that. I think it is so rude to ask people questions about money or how much they pay for things MYOB, geez.

Re: rudeness!
haha- tell her it costs a million dollars Maybe she wants to make and sell them or something, but i would just look it up online before i hounded someone i knew for a price they didnt want to divulge
my grandmother asked a few times in a round about way what our wedding costs (like 'oh, it must cost a lot of money' and 'why dont u just put it towards a house, you will never make the $ back') and i told her we will be just fine and dont worry about us.

it's funny you say that, I told her $400 just to get her off my back but I think she took me seriously

Re: rudeness!
someone I know wanted to know what the total cost of the wedding will be ---but only because she wants to make sure hers will be more expensive. She kept saying 'mine was more!'
so dumb

I've had people ask how much per plate!!!! WT@ I just say 'enough' or ' a lot'
That's one question I wont' answer!!!
I think people ask that so they have a ballpark figure of how much to give as a gift (?).

Re: rudeness!
So, what would be an appropriate and tactful response to such rude questions? Esp. the one about how much per person...

yes, omg people ask this all the time!!! my answer is always, 'too much' and if they keep insisting i tell them it's way over $150 pp. then they are in and wonder why we are spending so much money but it keeps their mouths shut!
I can't believe that 50 yr old has nothing better to do than to research what YOUR cardbox costs....that is just plain WEIRD. sorry!
sometimes i ask people how much they paid for something to see if i got a good deal or if i got ripped off...i know they take offense sometimes, i get embarassed and dont' ask again. i can't stand when people are persistent!!!! people continuously ask 'how much did you get your house for, why would you live there, you're paying so much $$$ in taxes' ugh!!!!! mind your own business and if that's where i choose to put my money, then so be it!

oh i am SO SO with you on this. I mean my mom has a general idea - but we maid the BIG mistake in the beginning (FH and I) of deciding we wouldn't discuss cost with the parents as we were paying for it ourselves. it really was with the best of intentions that we initially tried to do this - when we figured out it was hurting them it went right down the tubes :) :)

Re: rudeness!
Ew how obnoxious!! I'm guessing she's not invited and just being nosey. I think a lot of people who arent in the planning process and arent invited/involved get overly nosey and try to judge you because they are jealous in some way. It's one thing if she was super excited for you and asking in a good way, but I think it sounds like shes just being nosey and jealous.
