she wants you too pay?! Why cant the parents pay for thr FG dress?? If $$ is an issue take a look on ebay there are some adorable dresses for them and they are under 50$ w/ shipping!
As for her dress...cant she go to Estelles? What does she plan to wear if you guys dont buy it for her?
These in laws are insane...mine are the same! Not a dime yet they tell us what we need to do?!
Sorry you have to go through that!

Some people have such nerve. I always thought that when your in someones wedding you usually buy your own dress so why arent the Fg girls parents paying? As for your FMIL she is obviously a lil off of her rocker. Why should you have to pay for her stuff? That is crazy. I wouldn't pay for any of the inlaws day of gear. I've never even heard of anything like that before. FH needs to speak up and say something to his parents.

No bride needs this kind of stupidness when they have a million and 3 other important things to worry about. So heres a

Re: Sad Bride

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Here is the advise my mom always gives me. When she says something about your weight or something hurtful, walk up to her, as close as you can get and say 'why are you being so mean? Are you trying to hurt my feelings?' Thats it. Everytime she says something do this. It is uncomfortable to do but let me tell you it is more uncomfortable for her. Dont move until you feel you have made you point or she appologizes. I know that slapping her is what you want but trust me this works better because you and FH don't need to fight over it.

As for the money I would say, 'I would love to pay for your dress BUT we are struggleing to pay for the wedding and your attire is not something I can afford to help you with.

Good luck sweetie.

Re: Sad Bride

Although I agree that you should tell her to f^ck off and not come to the wedding, I do realize that you're in a sticky situation. I understand that this is your fh's mother and she deserves a certain amount of respect, but honestly, all the respect she deserved flew out the window the second she started belittling you and your fh. She sounds like a disgusting, selfish and cruel B!TCH.

And as for you and your fh not speaking, that's ridiculous. DO NOT let this psycho scum of a human being ruin your life, or your wedding. I think you need to sit down with your fh and have an extremely honest discussion with him. I have A LOT of issues with my fmil, and for 6 years I kept everything bottled up. 1 week after we got engaged I lost it, I unloaded everything on my fh and it was not a good scene. Your fh needs to realize that yes, his mother is his mother, but you are going to be his WIFE. A few months ago my fh had a discussion with his dad (who sounds like your ffil, and just wants everyone to appease fmil), and he told him that as much as he (ffil) wants to make HIS wife happy (fmil), fh now has his own wife (ME!) that he wants to make happy.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but trust me, do not let this shi!t slide, things will NOT get better if you guys just suck it up. TRUST ME!!!!!!! Feel free to fm me if you ever want to talk or vent...

Wow! Turn this story into a movie screen play and then you will be able to afford to pay for all her crap! Sorry to hear she is being such a witch...it's amazing how people can afford stuff for themselves ($800 dog) but then can't seem to cough it up when related to a wedding...tell her if it's too much of an expense that maybe she should just stay home on your wedding day!! And tell her you can't afford to pay for anything else because it needs to go towards therapy for having to deal with such a psycho of a fmil! haha...just hoping to make you laugh...i can always use some practice for taekwondo if you'd like me to use her as a kicking bag

Re: Sad Bride

wow, that is a sticky situation!!! your fh should definitely open his mouth to his parents about there complaints!!
1 - its not your responsibility to pay for everybodys dress/tux.
2 - they should not be so nasty!!! thats there son and fdil....wheres the love??
3 - i would def have my fh open his mouth.....your gonna be his wife and he shouldnt allow his parent sto speak to him or you that way!!!

i know its tough bc it is his parents and all, but something def has to be said!!!!

good luck and im very sorry that you have to deal with that!!

in the long run.....your marrying your fh not his family!!!!! do what makes you both happy

Oh that's gotta hurt. I always say you can pick your friends, but not your family. Unfortunately we are all not that lucky. I wouldn't pay for it, unless she was forking over some money to pay for your wedding I would think twice. She had money to buy a dog, but not a dress. Where's her priority's. Sometimes you just have to walk away for a bit and breath.

My FH's Mom is well how do I describe her a hard person. She doesn't have a heart of stone, but isn't very affectionate either.

My advice is kill her with kindness and keep your chin up.

hell yea, probs w/ fil!!!! check out prior post: click here

the latest.... fmil wants to know if she can have some of my relatives move around so they could sit with my parents at the bride's tables. we don't have a head table so we're doing (supposedly) bride's tables and groom's tables. i have like 50 relatives, many of them traveling halfway across the world to come to the wedding. and my family is very very close whereas fmil's relatives are not. they're flying in from cali, already made a huge freaking deal about having the wedding get moved for their future travel plans and now have these 'request' which they say are just 'something to consider.' well yea if you're going to ask someone to just 'consider' something, you're pretty much wanting them to do it before that, it was wanting to come and stay w/ fh the week before the wedding in our 1BR apt when i'll be stressed over studying for the bar, planning for the wedding as is. seriously, i just don't get people sometimes~ the mentality isn't 'let me see what we can do to help you with your wedding' but it's more like 'let me see what you can do for us while you plan your wedding.' how incredibly insensitive and selfish is that~

that's worse than when fh's sis in law was trying to get fh to consider adopting their cat because after 10 years, everyone in the family all of a sudden got allergic to the cat. fh's sis in law's younger sister didn't want it and no one else would take it so she asks fh to 'consider' adopting the cat. fh being the unquestioning, unawares kind soul that he is was just like 'awww why not?' who's going to pay for kitty's food? for kitty's litter? who's going to take care of the cat when no one's home? where is there space for cat to run around in a small apt?

fh's family sometimes really wants to make me shoot myself

okie, sorry, that was a long vent.... but yea, IL problems, bring em on!

DOnt shoot yourself shoot them

LOL! i envision that the next thing IL's will request for us to 'consider' is can you have your photographer take family portraits of us during your wedding?

or something along the lines of 'it would be nice for our son to plan a honeymoon with us coming along.' they already have fh flying over to cali like every 3-4 months. i know they're leaving the country in august but i mean it's not like they're never going to come back to visit! and they want this during the most crucial time of wedding planning too~ argh.... sorry, can just go on and on and on...

edit: sorry for monopolizing ur thread Val, just get so carried away when it comes to fmil issues

Don't apoligize on my account. When you have to vent you have to vent. I hope all works out for you! Maybe i'll send my IL with yours so they can all leave the country

OMG!! She sounds horrible! I am so sorry...
I would tell her...we cannot afford paying for anything for you. This is our wedding..and we are focusing on us...AND the fact that she makes comments about your weight is just AWFUL. No matter what you will look beautiful..ignore that nasty woman! She shouldn't be treating you that way...WOW

WHOA have you got it bad! Sorry that you FMIL is that way (TG mine isnt!) but you should by NO MEANS pay for her dress! FG dresses I could understand if money was an issue but she is taking it to the extreme! I would tell FH that he needs to break it down to her-I understand he is in an uncomfortable position but really-YOU ARE GOING TO BE HIS WIFE and he needs to be able to stand up for you when you are put in a position with his parents.

Good Luck sweetie!

I am dealing with shock and awe right now. I cannot BELIEVE what I just read. How DARE her make comments about you're build!!!

I want you to tell her to go scratch but I do understand that you can't. No matter what my FMIL said I wouldn't say anything like that either. It really is for your FH to deal with. AND he needs to deal with it, regardless of 'respect.'

You get the respect you deserve. By disrespecting her son's future wife is not the way to earn his respect and certainly not yours!

Do your parents know she talks to you like that?

UGH I am soooo sorry your dealing with this BS
