My MOH has been working tirelessly to plan a beautiful bridal shower for me that was sort of a surprise. So, I was on the phone with my mother this morning and I casually mentioned that I was leaving for Chicago on a work trip for a month, on and off traveling through June First. Very quickly and agitated, she sighs- How are you going to be away when your bridal shower is May 31??? I was so upset- I WAS going to be in town that day. (She knew it was supposed to be a surprise!!)
All she had to do was call my MOH and FI, who knew my travel schedule. I was like, '***? How could you ruin this for me?'- The shower was the one thing I was looking forward to, the one thing someone else was doing for me! I was so incredibly hurt that she didn't want to surprise me! I spent like half the morning crying as I am doing EVERYTHING for the wedding!!! To absolve my immediate family of any stress, we even cut out the RD or engagement party!!! All they have to do is show up for the wedding!!! I can't believe they ruined the shower that wasn't even theirs to ruin, it was my darling MOH who has worked so ****ed hard on it!!!

I'm so sorry! But maybe she didn't realize and blurted it out? Even thought it won't be a surprise it will still be beautiful and you know how much work went into it and I am sure that means so much. I am so sorry though!

From our conversation a few months back, I am sad but not shocked that this has happened -- and you shouldn't be either. Please try to stay focused on how wonderful it is that your MOH is planning this for you -- and that the day will still be wonderful even if it isn't a surprise.

I'm so sorry, Marisa! You will still be surprised by all they do for you though. And, you probably would have figured out the shower date in the long run. But, I know how you feel, I'd be very upset too.
You're going to Chicago for a month? I was there this weekend! Where are you staying?

Thanks to you all and Valenia- you are right! There are no surprises here, I guess I was just really looking forward to something a little different and special. But it is just a party when all is said and done and there will be other surprise parties in life I can plan for my FH and kids and stuff... I think if I keep telling myself this, I will come to believe it.

Sorry Marisa. I know how dissapointing that must have been.
Here's a bright side if you'd like one. Now you get to look your beautiful best, buy a great dress, have a pedi if you need one etc. Mine was a COMPLETE surprise .... complete with bad hair & a bad outfit! I would have loved to go looking nice!

Marisa, as your MOH I have worked tirelessly to pull this shower together, and yes it s.ucks that your mother blurted it out, but I PROMISE that you will have multiple surprises betweeen now and September. Your mom is your mom and there is nothing you can do or change about it, but you deserve a beautiful shower and wedding and that is exactly what you will have, even if I have to hog tie your mother and wrestle her amex card from her!

I want to add that my shower was this weekend, and even though I had guessed it, and wasn't surprised, it was still amazing. I was so emotional. Knowing WHEN it is and actually being there to see family and friends all there for you, loving you and seeing how much work your MOH puts into it are 2 totally different things. Knowing about it is the teeniest part of the whole thing. Your excitement and happiness will be there, trust me, and you will be soooo overwhelmed you'll forget you ever knew the date. TRUST ME

Sorry to hear that. But your shower may not be a surprise but some people, gifts or even something our of the ordinary may be a surprise. Please don't worry you have a lot of good surprises coming up.
