i felt the same exact feelings when I found out we had to stay in NJ. I am from LI and desperately wanted to stay there....it was even as deep as calling this whole wedding thing off.....He has family here, but I am just not that close to them, and I love love love my family and friends AND JOB....on long island. I can't compare it to NH because i still work on LI, but I just feel like i don't see them as much as I could if I lived there. You'll be so excited once you make the move and so focused on organizing, decorating, adjusting, that it will lessen the blow for a little while...then it will come back, and you'll adjust. It will be a wave of emotions for the first few months to a year....it will be worse on days that you and FH argue...but you WILL get through it. It's not SO far away that coming home is really $$$$$ or a lengthy travel, so i'm sure you can still come back every couple of months or so, right??
Thanks Angela. I definitely plan on coming to visit every other month or so. I know it might be hard once LIFE begins - especially if I get pregant when I want to (within 6 months of moving) - things come up and it's hard to visit a lot. But I plan on trying very hard to visit as much as I can. Hope gas prices level off by then

That is a totally normal feeling. My sister and her baby live in Cali. I just went to visit them last month and it was the HARDEST thing leaving them. Luckily they are moving back to NY...they will still be about 3 hrs away....but wknds. we will visit....as will you! This is all normal and it will hit you harder some times than others
thanks. I am sure it will get better. It's just hard to think about.

So I have been a little upset since last night and I am not sure who I can talk to about this so I wanted to tell you girls. Maybe you can cheer me up.
Yesterday was my niece's first birthday. She is my goddaughter too. She is the most adorable, perfect kid. Never cries, always happy, and she's really beautiful. We had a great time at her party. And then I got home and got pretty upset because FH and I are planning to move to NH in 1.5 years - fall 2009. All of a sudden, the nagging feeling that I will miss my family and especially my sister and niece all came out, and I cried myself to sleep literally.
I really love it in NH and can't wait to start my family there with FH. It's a cheaper place to live, better quality of life as far as I am concerned (not as crowded, more beautiful landscape, etc) and we do love the snow, which we really don't get here anymore. I also know that once I have children of my own, I won't miss her as much because I'll have my own to dote on. But right now, the thought of not seeing her whenever I want, and the realization that everyone else in the family will be here for all those important milestones and I will not, is breaking my heart.
Someone, anyone, cheer me up please.
Oh I really know exactly how you feel. All my family is on LI and I am in MD. My sister is going to try to start having kids soon and my mom is older and won't be around forever. My mother sister and I are extremely close. They basically are my right and left arms. I feel the same way you do. That I am going to miss everything, that I have missed a lot in the past 3 years. But eventually we will be closer. FH and I may move to PA and then the visits will be easier. I know you won't be around for everyday stuff, but the most important times, birthday, christmas, holiday...you can make it a point to visit or they can come to you. We get to NY once a month and my family comes down here several times throughout the year also. It gets really expensive but it is so worth it. I have already told FH that no matter where I am, I will be with my Mother and sister on Christmas day no matter what. I am sure you will still see all your family. You just have to make a point to do it ya know? It will be harder but it's definitely worth it! Cheer up!! Let me know if you need anything we are in the same boat.

Thank you girls You made me cry a bit with your kind words, had to run into the bathroom so my boss did not see my red eyes. I went to bed sad, woke up sad, but I know I will see her. I hope to be able to see my family every month - if I can come down here every other month and they do the same on alternate months, that's every month. And even if it's only every other ... I know that's a lot for living 5 hours away. If I had to, I could drive down on a Fri night and drive back on Sun night. Totally doable, I know. Just the thought of leaving - actually saying goodbye - ugh, don't want to think about it.
But thank you all. I appreciate it and you have definitely helped.
Jen, my cousin lives in N.Chelmsford MA and not always, but sometimes I end up seeing her more than I see my own sister who lives in Queens. It will be hard, but you'll still see her. They will have a place to go on weekends and you can come here for weekends....a long car ride, yes, but totally doable.

aww jen
I'm sorry that you are feeling so bummed! I know its hard but once you get there and start getting settled you will feel better! NH isn't as far away as it seems, and I'm sure you will still get to see them lots.
Not to mention, once you start having babies of your own, your sister will want to come see you all the time so she can play with her niece / nephew too
Feel better

Im sorry! But NH isn't so far that you wouldnt be able to make it down for weekend trips and birthdays and holidays. I know that it must be hard thinking about the day to day without your family close by, but I am sure you can make it work.
Thanks Kristen
Thanks to you too Dee! I am glad I told you guys, I feel a lot better now.
No problem..maybe you can invest in a webcam for you and one for your sis. That way you can see your neice and she can see you anytime.
