Sad: today at work,

Original post by june262004

One of my coworkers was ringing up a customer (yeah I work in a supermarket) the person started screaming at her for double scanning her donuts and the cashier had a seziure. She feel and hit her head on the register counter. I feel so bad. They had to take her out in an ambulance. This is why people shouldnt be so nasty.

The main thing I have always told people is just make sure there was nothing around that I could hurt myself with!

Did the customer SAY anything???? I mean after it happened? I am so curious to know what her reaction was and if anyone said anything to HER??

Re: Sad: today at work,

Yeah...what did the customer say?????
I used to work in a supermarket and let me tell you, the littles things can set people off!
I have had cereal boxes thrown at me and money (thank you!) and people spitting mad over a 10 cent coupon!
The bottom line is, it's a lot easier to take out our frustrations on a complete stranger...but that doesn't make it right!
That customer needs a reality check, in my opinion, especially if something as simple as double scanning donuts is her biggest problem!
And, if she does have OTHER problems that have caused her to react so badly to a simple mistake, then she needs THERAPY!

Oh my goodness that is so sad. That is why people should not treat people like that. My goodness I don't care what the other person was going through you can correct someone without screaming so the entire store hears you.

Please give us an update on your coworker when you get one.

I feel so bad for her. My husband has a friend that has seizurs and its so sad. He doesn't even go out. I think its b/c he is embarrassed when he has seizures. So sad.

Re: Sad: today at work,

Kristin,

I hope your co-worker is ok. And I have worked in retail before and some customers are the biggest a-holes and have no problem yelling and screaming...over a box of donuts...CHILL OUT LADY..Give me a break!!

I feel horrible for your co-worker and hope for nothing but the best..I am sure you will make her feel more comfortable if/when she comes back to work. Just be the great friend that you are and hopefully she will feel a little beitter

Re: Sad: today at work,

Im not really sure what she said after it happened there was so much confusion and people were so worried about her I wasnt even paying attention. I can tell you this though she left right away. I wouldn't yell at someone (because of working in retail) but if that happened I would probably burst into tears and made sure I stuck around to make sure she was ok. I can tell you that the cashier was married and is now going through a divorce and just trying to make a living to support her 5 year old son. Who has disiplan problems and his school is constantly calling our managers are really understanding and work really well with her and her situation.

Kristin, I hope your coworker is ok.

I am constantly amazed at how angry and unfeeling people can be. This customer obviously has some anger management issues. Having to ask someone to delete an item from a grocery bill is not something to scream about! And I don't think the answer it that this girl shouldn't work in a supermarket. I think rather than expect our supermarket cashiers to be able to handle being screamed at and ridiculed, we should expect the customers to act like decent human beings.

OK honestly there are no Flashing lights on a scanner. This isnt a video game from Japan. I was just stating how bad I felt for the poor girl. Maybe PEOPLE SHOULDNT BE RUDE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT PROBLEMS SOMEONE HAS. The lady couldnt have said You scanned my donuts 2 nicely? She screamed it so loud that everyone turned around.

I agree, plus, whether or not the cashier had epilepsy - the customer was way out of line for screaming. And having a bad day is NOT an excuse, I don't care if over the years people think that it's become one, IT'S NOT. If your spouse or child pissed you off or someone cut you off in your car that gives NO RIGHT for a customer to scream at the cashier.

So really, a person shouldn't be rude not because you don't know the other person's physical or mental situation but just because IT'S JUST PLAIN FLIPPIN' RUDE.

PS: sorry forgot to ask about the cashier!!!
I hope she's doing alright now.

In a previous post you asked about how allergy fits in..Well, back in march im driving to Florida with my parents and had a headache. My sis hands me an aleve. I fall asleep and wake up to 5 people screaming my name, ambulance sirens and EMT's rushing to me..it was 1AM and we were in Delaware somewhere.
Turns out I have an allergy to advil, aleve..basically Ibuprofin products! I had a siezure. I scared the sh!t out of everyone! I'm 29 years old and Never had a problem. I can only take tylenol and thats it..or simply wait the headache out. Im on medication to prevent it from happening again and have been through sooo many tests its been nuts!
I hope your co-worker is ok!! Like I said,,keep us posted...Oh and SHAME on that customer!!!!!
