So we were set on Sandals St.Lucia when we saw some fine print in their catalog 'Couples must consist of one man and one woman' (something like that). So now, we're not so sure we want to go to Sandals. I think I'm going to write them and tell them that thier bigoted policies lost my business. Does anyone know of an all-inclusive that isn't bigoted?
Anyway, i just thought I'd spread the word. It might have some effect on your decisions.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
My friend and his wife went there on their honeymoon and hated it. The were p!ssed because the Sandals resort used a public beach- there wasn't a private hotel beach...

Still, don;t you think that it's wrong to give $$ to people who are openly bigoted> I won't support that.
Im not saying youre wrong..Im just curious about what other people think!

I *hope* that they aren't bigoted. I hope that there is some other reason why they have that rule. I can't think of one though...

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
Never went to a Sandals heard there drinks are too watered down.. lol
but maybe its because they don't want a mother-daughter trip or two friends getting some type of couple deal....
Could it be as harmless as that maybe?
Have you tried calling them and asking prior to speculating that they are bigots?

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
Calling them right now...1-800 SANDALS..
She said it was because it was 'Created as a traditonal honeymoon place. But we have amde exceptions and other arrangements'
I said 'Like what?'
She said 'Well, Beaches resorts allow same sex couples, singles and families, but Sandals does not'
Me: 'Why not?'
Her: 'That's the wya it ahs always been and it has not changed. If we allowed everyone, we would not have created Beaches at all'
That was no answer at all!
ETA: The wya I understand it, Sandals is COuples Only, Beaches is Not. There's no deal attached. I doubt that Sanda;s is cheaper than beaches b/c its a couples resort. And to say 'well they cna go to Beaches' It's like, separate but equal..only..umm not.. How would you feel about a place that said 'White couples only' I think there'd be an uproar...and I think there should be one about this, too.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
I called Couples. They have the same kind of Polict. Two of them are hetero couples only, one of singles, couples and same sex..I'm not sure what to make of this, really.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
Well, the Couples we are going to (Swept Away) is open to all couples and singles. That said, I wouldn't not go even if it weren't. These places are not in the US, and cater to vacationers from around the world. Many areas are not as open and accepting as the US (though I don't know if we can call our country open and accepting when the President will not acknowledge gay marriage...).

FYI: There are resorts only for gay couples too. Not to say, that's fair for heterosexuals, but it is what it is.

I guess absorb all this info first, then make your decision.

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately it is policy at alot of places. That is why we went with a smaller all-inclusive.

If it was the one in St. Lucia that is because all beaches on the island are public.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
I'd also like to add that the Caribbean does not have open laws and regulations regarding homosexuals, so this may not even be the opinion of the resort, but rather the country or area in which it is located.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
I don't agree with this either, but I think a lot of hetero couples would be uncomfortable with same sex couples being there. That's the only thing I can think of.

Re: Sandals --bigoted!!!
Well, they might also have this policy so you and one of you girlfriends can't go away for a week and get 'couples' pricing, but I do agree that it is discriminatory
