I didnt see the first season - how did Big & Carrie meet? And why have they never been in a relationship beyond their occasional 'dates'

Anyone care the enlighten me?

I thought they met on the streets of manhattan...can anyone confirm that?

And they used to be in a relationship....but he didnt want 'more' and then moved to California....they have been 'buddies' in previous episodes and even while she was dating Aidan! And then confessed this to Aidan and broke his heart!!
