Saturday or Sunday Wedding? (w/poll)

Saturday or Sunday Wedding? (w/poll)

As of now, I'm booked for a Sunday evening (6pm - 11pm) wedding in November. I've been considering switching to the day before which would be a Saturday, and I would have it during the day, i think from 1pm - 6pm. But I'm still up in the air and fh said it doesn't matter to him.

So, my question is, as a guest, would you rather attend a wedding Saturday during the day or Sunday night?

Thanks girls!

i think it really depends on your guests, but i personally will have a lot of out of towner's, so i voted for saturday day. good luck!

I am having my wedding Saturday during the day because I was really sold on my date but was unable to meet the hall's minimum for an evening wedding. People are going to tell you different things - evenings are more classy or Saturdays are better than Sundays yadda yadda yadda. You really have to decide what's right for you and your guests.

I know as a teacher I would not want to attend a Sunday night wedding. I get up before 5 am sometimes so being out late the night before is out of the question....if you do a Sunday night you might have to understand that people might not come or might leave early to get home for work. Also out of towners will probably have a difficult time deciding if they should come or not. At least if you have a Saturday daytime wedding people won't have to rush out of there. Good luck with your choice!

it's difficult for some people to take off work for a sunday night wedding, and if they can't, it means they won't really be able to relax at the reception. i'm trying to keep the inconveniences down to a minimum since it already costs guests a pretty penny to come in the first place. JMO

I'm doing a Sunday evening wedding but the next day is a holiday so hopefully people will have off from work. We definately couldn't afford or meet the minimums for a Saturday evening.

I voted for Saturday afternoon.

We are having a Sunday afternoon wedding for a few reasons:

1) Jews aren't supposed to get married on Shabbat which rules out Fri night/Sat day/Sat night until sundown. We could have had a really really late start (it's August, sundown is late) but I figured a lot of people would leave early

2) I love daylight and sunshine and summer!

3) an afternoon wedding leaves time for an afterparty

4) we have a lot of OOT guests. While many are taking off Monday and are spending the night, we wanted to allow more local OOTers (like many of my older relatives with a 1-2 hour drive) to make it home at a reasonable hour if they had to get to work Mon, and our OOTers could potentially catch a flight Sun night if necessary

I would happy to attend either a Sun night wedding or a Sat afternoon wedding, but I think Sun night (just like Fri night) can be more difficult for your guests and people might be more likely to leave significantly early.

What are your priorities?

I would prefer a Saturday day, no work the next day! I've been to a saturday afternoon wedding, and it still had the same feel and excitement of a saturday evening wedding...i'm having a saturday afternoon wedding too!

As much as I would prefer an evening wedding, in this case I would have to say Saturday afternoon just because people work on Monday and some may leave early cause of work the next day. I know there are tons of girls on here that are having afternoon weddings and they are very happy with their choice.

I had the same dillema but opted for a saturday afternoon since I would think my guests would prefer to get home early (especially if they have kids). Its really dependent on what you prefer.

I'd say Saturday afternoon. Once people are at the RH, they will totally forget about the time. It will feel like Sat night to them, and as a few girls pointed out, people also won't have to worry about work the next day.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON!!!!!!!!! Sunday night weddings are annoying to go to AND people leave early...1 or 2 people Ok...but 50 people leaving before you cut the cake? NO WAY. CHANGE IT!!! NOW!!!

You made some very good points!

The first thing that made me start to second guess the Sunday night, is that it's after day light savings so it would be dark out by the time the whole thing starts. And one of my top reasons for choosing my hall was that I loooove the outside with all the gardens and flowers and everything and if I do the Sunday night no one would be able to see that part of it. Saturday, even though it's Nov, it may still be nice enough outside where we could do the ceremony outside and I would get to enjoy the gardens and take pics outside, etc. And an after party is a great idea! Pretty much the only thing that bothers me about Saturday, is that I would have to wake up super early and I am soooo not a morning person lol. I'm worried that I'll start to feel really rushed that morning and I want to stress myself out as little as possible.

I'm trying to weigh out all the pros and cons and I think I'm starting to to lean a little bit more towards Saturday, but still not 100% sure lol

Yes, the getting up early will be a pain. I am not looking forward to it -- we're doing it extra early because we are doing pictures before the ceremony for 2 hours. Plus, we're starting even earlier than you (ceremony is 11:30, reception is 12-5). I know I'd sleep in if I had an evening wedding, and I want my wedding day to last as long as possible! I'd also rather spend as much time as possible with my guests - morning, afternoon and night - and the earlier end time works better for us since we're leaving for our honeymoon the next day. FH can only take off a certain number of days each year, and I start my last year of law school.

My mom told me that Westbury Manor's gardens were too beautiful to waste with a night wedding! Also - you have GOT TO LOVE THE AFTERPARTY!
