It's FREEZING out there!!! I just got back from dropping Walter off at the vet for his third and final shot for heart worm treatment. Could use a little luck for the poor guy.
Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy on to our QOTD... So growing up I was always told that you should see how a potential FH treats his mother because that is how he will treat his wife.
Recently I’ve seen that the train of thought is: see how his father treats his mother because that is how he will treat you when you are married.
What do you think of this?
I'm going back to bed for a little bit...I've got a lot to say on this later.

I've never heard that, but it sounds pretty interesting. I mean if you think of it, we first and foremost learn our parenting and relationship skills from who else.......but our parents???? What you see your parents do is generally what you know to do.
If that's the case, I'm fine with it. FFIL treats FMIL like a gem.....and believe me, she gives him a run for his money. There are days even I think he should be running, lol. But they're happily married over 30 years now.

I wish I had a total answer for this one but FH's Mom & Step Dad live in Missouri and I've only met them once briefly. He calls his Mom every Sunday does that count?!

FFIL never treated Fmil really well, but FH knows better so I think they can def turn around what they saw and make it right with their FW. FH would never speak to me the way Ffil used to speak to FMIL...

i've heard this too even when i went for precana. i guess it's somewhat true b/c that's what he is surrounded by and grew up in. ....but at the same time he can act different and learn from what the parents do wrong

i think this is probably true. i think seeing how your parents interact teaches you alot about relationships.

I've heard that and either way I think I'm in pretty good shape. (If it's true) He is so good to his mom even though she is completely ROTTEN to us and his father is so tolerant adn patient of the woman's nonsense so either everyone just tip toes around her like they do with his loser of a brother or 2/3rds of the men in the family are good seeds

I do agree with this.... somewhat! However, there are people out there who's parents are wonderful but the guys still treat their women like D-bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not referring to my Fh ..... but those guys know who they are!

FH's mom died a few years ago and was chronically ill for about 17 years (long time, I know). Nonetheless, the way FFIL talks about FH's mom is the most wonderful, loyal, loving thing I've ever heard. I only HOPE FH is half as good of a husband as FFIL was to FH's mom :).

Definitely something to think about... but I don't agree with it 100%. I believe its a combination of things, how both parents treat each other, their children, how they witness others treat their spouses and mostly their relationship with you. It may tend to hold true for women who remind them of their mother perhaps.

As for the mother part...I'm in like Flynn...he treats her like gold no matter how much she takes advantage of him.
The father thing....I'm soooooooooo skrewed!! They are divorced and one of the reasons was physical and mental abuse. God I hope he learned what kind of husband NOT to be.
