So my mom is arguing with me that save the dates are a waste of money and I shouldn't send them out! Well, I want to send them. I feel that they are needed because most of FH family does not live in NY and the wedding is a Sunday evening which would require most people to take off work Monday. My entire family is against me on this topic.
Am I being unreasonable? Is there anyone else not doing save the dates?

Re: Save the Date
We did them b/c 1) they were included with our photog package...2) our wedding is on a holiday weekend so we wanted to make sure our loved ones knew not to make plans
They arent needed but sometimes they are - in your case if you have a lot of OOT guests I think they are really important.

Re: Save the Date
i think they are great. it reminds people esp if they are out of town. You can get them for pretty cheap so imo its worth sending. I got magnets from vista print for 50 cents each and i believe normal postcards are even cheaper.

Re: Save the Date
my wedding isn't on a holiday weekend or anything special. it is on a sunday evening. we are keeping the wedding local. my family lives in queens and most, if not all, of FH lives in Brooklyn where the wedding will take place. a handful will be traveling from Staten Island and New Jersey. I didn't have to do the STD's but i thought they were fun and i made them myself (pics in album) its not your mom's wedding, its yours. and you have a valid reason, if most of FH's family is from OOT, you should definately do them

Re: Save the Date
Did anyone see the movie 'Our Family Wedding' at least I think that is what it's called. I really feel like its 'her wedding and my marriage.' I'm really trying to be subtle with her because she is paying for the wedding but it's getting aggravating!!
I think I'm going to still do the save the dates, pay for it myself , and just send one to her via mail

Re: Save the Date
I'd do it. My mom was down with it, but my grandma was like 'uh how come you can't just call everyone??!' Really grandma? Not so much. Esp. if you're doing a summer wedding, so the people you're inviting can plan their vacations too! In the world we live in now, sending an invite 3 months before is NOT enough notice for people. I ordered mine from vista print too, i got 100 magnets, matching envelopes, and matching return addresses for under 100$. You can get post cards there real cheap too, and keep your eye out for their specials!

This. What's the big deal? You can get really cheap ones made, and if you go to VistaPrint at the right time, you can get them for almost free. Just do it if you want them.

ITA - plus we wanted to send them out b/c june is a popular month to get married and we're already getting STDs from other couples for next summer so I def need to make sure that ppl know not to have plans that day and to go to my wedding over another

Re: Save the Date
I had this same fight with FH! So I went on Vista Print and bought them for super cheap! You can get the postcards with your picture and save the date message on one side and then the rest on the other. And it's cheaper to send via mail!!!

Re: Save the Date
Check vistaprint. You can often get 100 postcards for free (or minimal cost), and then postage to mail them is even less than a normal letter.
