Save the Date cards...

Save the Date cards...

What exactly is the purpose of these? I mean I know what they're for, but is it good to use these if you have out of town guests, or for just about anybody? And how far in advance do you send them out? Thanks!

I believe they are mainly for out of town guests. It gives them a chance to make airline and hotel reservations. I am not sure how far in advanc eis necessary, but I would think 6-8 months would be appropriate.

Save the Date cards...

I am getting Save the Date cards for all my guests b/c I am getting married on July 4th and I figure it would be a great reminder, to some people who already know about the date but also to those who don`t know when I am getting married. That is my purpose in using them

We are also sending them out to all guests who will be invited to the wedding. It will be a reminder of when the date is, especially since I have a few relatives who we don't get to see that often.

I am sending them out in the next week or two (we got ours with a Christmas border on them), and my wedding is the second weekend in May.

Also sending them out to everyone as a reminder of the date.

I got magnets made (.33 cents a piece from www.favorlady.com) and will be sending them out with notes after the Holidays. We have lots of out-of-town guests that need to make travel arrangments. But we are sending them to almost all of our guests. I handed the magnets to very close friends and immediate families though. They don't need the letter and extra info since they already know all about it :)

Save the Date cards/letters

I'm sending all of my out of town guests a letter w/ all of the important info on it. Dates, times, locations, things to do in the area, contact numbers of rental cars/hotels/airlines, and if they have any troubles who they can contact for help.
Once I have a master list of everyone who is staying at the Windwatch, I will have a welcome letter for them with every guest(who will be attending our wedding) who is also staying at the Windwatch. We are also planning on having a brunch the next day, and I will include all of that info on the welcome letter as well.
Part of why we are sending this out is because our wedding is in the summer when a lot of people take vacations.
Hope this helps!

I am sending my STD out this month...to almost everyone (not my mothers work friends nor my work friends - since this is all they hear from me)

We have family coming from Spain, Germany, Mexico and Arizona.

I used the same magnet woman Michele used and she is extremely nice...

sending:
STD card with info on it
magnet (with our picture and date)
insert of website (it was not ready when card went to be printed)

what we did

We made magnets ourselves! They looked so professional! Anyway, the magnet had a picture that we took of the mansion where we were going to have the wedding, our names and the wedding date.
We sent that out about 8-9 months before the wedding to everyone--since most of the guests were from out of town. About 5 months before the wedding, we sent out the brochures that we had also made that contained information about the three hotels that we had booked as well as the transportation that we were providing, the wedding place address and directions.

Hope this helps! good luck.
