Save The Date Etiquitte (sp?) Question!!! HELP!!!

My sister (MOH) and I are working on my STD's. I have an etiquitte question. Is it tacky or inappropriate to include cards stating where I'm registered?

I didn't have an engagement party and I didn't send out engagement announcements. I haven't received many engagement gifts and I think it's because nothing formal was sent out.

My sister says that if I include registry cards in the STD people are going to think that I want gifts fir my wedding. But in reality I just want an acknowledgement of my engagement.

What do you guys think?

I think it might be taken by some people that you're just sending out the STDs to get gifts. The way I got around this is I'm including on the STD 'for travel and related information, viist our website at ____' On the website is a link to our registry (in addition to lots of other info) in case they want to get us a gift. But this way it doesn't look like we're pressuring people for one.

Re: Save The Date Etiquitte (sp?) Question!!! HELP!!!

My understanding of the etiquette is that it is inappropriate to put that in the STD's. Jennie's idea is a great on if you have a website and most people know to check wedding channel now. As a rule, registry cards are always on the envelope in terms of seeming like asking for gifts, but the only time it is truly acceptible is for a shower. That said, do what feels right to you.

we had an engagement party and sent out STDs...neither one had registry cards with them. i have read its inappropriate to include them in anything but your formal wedding invitation, and agree. and it's even questionable whether or to include them in the invitation. word-of-mouth should be enough until the wedding invitations go out to notify folks of the registry.

I think it is a bit tacky. If people want to know where you are registered, they will find out. Be sure to post a pic of you STD...

Re: Save The Date Etiquitte (sp?) Question!!! HELP!!!

We did not send out any formal annoucements about anything.. We need to register for more stuff cause our registries are almost complete-- people asked us, our parents where we are registered, etc. So- I think it depends- but sending something out, does not necessarily mean you will get gifts.

For our STD's we included our wedding web site from weddingchannel which also lists our registries-- as well as pertinent OOT info, etc. Since we sent them out- we have seen a few gifts be purchased.

We wrote:
For additional wedding details, please visit or wedding website, etc.

That may be an option for you.

Re: Save The Date Etiquitte (sp?) Question!!! HELP!!!

Yes, you are not supposed to include registery info.

What we did was include a saying on our STD's

'For out of town guest accomodations and registry information please visit our wedding web-site at
www.weddingchannel.com'

But most of my guests are older family members(some are 60 plus and don't use the internet... the horror ) so they still don't know.

I'm finding that some people are practical and go off of your website but many others must assume that I was not registered yet and got me whatever they wanted to get me as an engagement present. The shower is a different story.
