I've heard so many different things - 1 year before is too soon, 6 months before is too late. Here was my original plan, let me know what you think - My family engagement party is next month - wedding is sept 2011. i was going to give them out at the eparty, and then mail the rest right after. is that too soon? thanks ladies =)

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
9-10 months before is perfect! 1 year is jumping the gun- but if you have a special date/holiday weekend you can get away with 1 year before.

I don't think that's too soon. We sent ours out at about 11 months because I wanted to wait until we had the hotel block done before sending so we could send that info out as well.
I actually handed a few out to close family members before the year mark since they wanted to see them so I figured 'here keep it, you're gonna eventually get one anyways' LOL

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
I think I will probably send them out around the one year mark. I think the ten month is even good. I just don't want the save the dates to go out.. and then four months later the invites... I think that is just pointless.

I'm shooting to send them out 8-10 months ahead of time which means I have to send them like next month

I think your plan is good!
I had my eparty one year before my wedding date, I sent my save the dates with my thank you cards.
My mom wanted me to give them out at the party, but I didn't have them done yet.

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
You plan is good, I wanted to send my out a year just cause I have mostly OOT guests but I can't seem to get on the ball. They are still sitting in my dining room waiting for address labels!

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
We sent them out a little less than a year... about 11 months out... we are getting married on a Sunday night so we wanted to give everyone enough notice.

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
I'm getting married in August and I want to send mine out in January. I figure if I do it Nov-Dec it's going to get lost in the shuffle of the holidays. Also in Jan people have their new calenders and are excited to fill them in!

Re: Save the date - when is too soon?
ya - i just feel like september is such a busy month for people with it being wedding season, back to school, etc - so the earlier the better, as long as its not TOO early. PLUS, if i give some out at the eparty, i'll save on postage :)
PS - I recently discovered Etsy, and I am in LOVE. a woman from england is making my save the dates and i'm OBSESSED!!!
