Saving for your wedding....

Saving for your wedding....

My FH and I have been together for 7 years and we don't have a joint account. We recently bought a house and that's what we spent all of our engagement monetary gifts/giftcards on. We have divided the responsibilities. I'm paying for the reception hall and he is paying for everything else. He works a lot of overtime and I will start to work more hours too. I guess now is a good time to get an account together. Thanks for sharing!

We also have a joint acct just for wedding expenses...as we have booked vendors we put at least 25% of the balance in and make goals to make deposits...we want the full cost covered about 3 months before...we decided not to pay vendors in full and allow the money to collect interest and will just pay everyone off about a month before so we only have to worry about tips that day.

We have a joint account for the RH payments and send the checks every 3 months. As far as the other vendors, we have a separate envelope for each with their name and balance due written on it. Once all the money is in that envelope we seal it. When you have a large amount of money in an account you tend to oh we are doing well and not realize how much more you really need. With the envelopes it's clear and checking off a balance of the big list is a relief.

I put two of my paychecks into the wedding account every month and FH puts one of his paychecks per month. The rest is used for bills and savings. Oh I edited to add this...every month we have give the reception hall $1500 so that its easy and we should be paid for by mid year next year. The other vendors we just paid deposits and I want to have them all paid for 2 months to 1 month before the wedding so I don't have to worry about paying people that night. I constantly worry about the payments so I have to keep everything on a schedule (in Excel)or I will just freak out more.

i put X amount in savings every week. even if we don't have a lot of extra. we are so focused on this money.we don't have credit cards, so Everything has to be paid for before the wedding. it's a little daunting. But so far knock on wood, were doing it. YEAH ME!!!!

Ahh cngrats!! That's tough but worth it.

I like the envelope idea! FH is doing that now with our bills. I'm gonna tell him to start doing that for our vendors as well!
