Have you ever sat down to really think about how expensive our wedding will be??? The wedding alone is costing us a fortune.. Im not even counting in all the money we have to spend to furnish our apartment when the time comes.. and OMG.. its only 20 more months until I get married!!! Thank god for bridal showers!!!
Have you ladies drastically cut corners to save for this joyous event?? What are your saving secrets???
And the BIG question...
Has anyone set any finanical goals ( etc.. June I want to have so & so in the bank... Dec 31st.. I want to have $$$ in the bank). Were these goals met??? If not.. How did you feel?? My FI & I hit a dry period (savings wise). Im just hoping to reach our finanical goal by the end of this year or I will seriously go out of my mind!!
Am I making any sense??

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
FH and I were planning on moving in together in August. We have pretty much nixed those plans because we figured it would be pretty much impossible for us to save if we do this.. I still live with my parents, so its easier for me to save money without the added expense of rent, and other things that come with living on my own. I'm pretty bummed about it, but we have to do what is practical. As for setting specific goals, I just save what I can while paying my bills, and hope to save enough to cover all the wedding expenses. We DO NOT want to start our married life in debt, so we are trying to avoid putting things on credit cards. Been doing well so far.. but we'll see as things get closer.. There's 13 months to go for us!

We have an ING account. I had some money in there already, and FH is putting money away every month in it, just like its a bill. The interest is at 3% right now! I highly recommend it!

What is ING?
For us, we save 1000 a month...it's difficult but we are getting there!

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
I direct deposit money into a joint account. For FH it a lot more difficult because he has custody of his kids (with no help from the ex) so I tell him that we need a certain amount of $$ by such&such date. And I break that up into smaller increments every couple of months. Between overtime and his Djing, he does it. The closer we get to the date the more scared I get about not having the money for it but we are trying the best that we can. I don't want to start our married life in debt also. We want to buy a house in a year.
Good luck.

The ING savings account seems like the way to go.. Thanks for the advice.. I was actually looking into it a few months ago. I'm going to talk to my FI about it when I get home today.

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
basically, I am saving the $$ for most of the wedding costs, and FH is saving for the housing costs (he makes more than I do) and giving me his bonuses to put towards the wedding.
I feel like compared to some of you girls, my wedding budget is fairly low (17,500) I am hoping not to go over that...and I am doing everything in my power to stay on track..
it's just hard sometimes. we are getting no help from anyone, no e-party..nothing...
I am turning 30 in a few weeks and I was going to throw myself a huge party before we decided to get married and now that's gone....but it will be worth it!
so, to sum up...we eat at home A LOT more, and we have a $50 budget for weekend activites...if it looks like we are falling short, we wil cut back some more, but for now, we are ok.

FH and I have a portion of our check direct deposited into our joint account. It works because we dont see it in our checks nor miss it. We also try not to go out as much to dinners and well, for me shop! So far that has been working and it helps when leaving deposits for vendors...coming out of that account.
Its tough but we are making it happen and of course trying to find the inexpensive ways of having a nice wedding.

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
FH & I are currently putting at least $2K in our joint account a month...There are months that we put more..FH is fortunate to have a salary + commission based job...We both live at home & rarely go out to dinner or anything...We both get $100 spending money a week & the rest goes to our car payments & our separate savings accounts...
We set a budget when we started to plan our wedding....We have stuck to it & cut many corners...When we first started to save, we agreed that we would always put the $2K in the bank no matter what...It has been tough, but you have to do what you have to do!!!

We are trying to save as much as we can but both FH and I love to eat out and shop. So we have cut that down a bit. I have to say I do worry about it all the time though.

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
Well FH and I save a lot of money each month b/c we are closing on our home soon. We had some money saved for the wedding but it is slowly diminishing. I am glad that we waited for 2 years though b/c we have more time to save. The closing is very soon so after that is out of the way then we will have to finish paying of wedding vendors.
Each month we save atleast one full paycheck from each of us. We are good savers. Well he is better than me?

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
Well both our taxes went straight to things for the wedding. So that helped us out alot cuz mosto f thatis going for deposits and things that we want to purchase for the wedding.
I have to say its not as easy as I thoguht it would be to save with rent, bills and things for our daughter that she needs. I worry sometimes we aren't gonna make it. That was one of my nightmares that I had that we didn't have enough moneyto pay some of the vendors so at the ewnd of the nite wewere going through the cards and taking the money out of them to finish paying the vendors

I'm graduating at the end of May and then I'll be studying for the bar and then working. Once I start working it'll be a lot easier since we'll have two incomes. For now, we've cut back on going out to dinner and I'm trying to cut back on shopping. I pack Jason lunch everyday so he doesn't have to buy.

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
We're putting away as much as possible and want to have enough money to pay the reception cost in full by the end of the year. (Not that we're going to pay it at the end of the year, but just to have that much money put away).
We eat out less(only for celebrations or special occasions), play board games at home instead of always going out, and moved in together to avoid both of us paying rent.
We're opening the ING savings account after the e-party.
Also biggest sacrifice.. I'm relocating back to NY to live at home and he's getting sent to California (via Marine Corps) and living on base. So we can bank the rent & utility money we would have spent.
Saving is hard. But it'll be worth it in the end.

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
we just opened a new savings account- our 'house fund'
baasically we are trying to get all of our vendors paid off and then kick into high gear for saving.
also we are NOT TOUCHING ANY $$ from our engagement gifts and etc to pay for the wedding- ALL of that goes in the house fund.
I am not very good at saving but FH is a financial advisor so at least one of us is!!

Re: Saving money.. How are you doing with that??
FH & I set up a savings account together about a year before we got engaged. Every two weeks we would put some money into into from our paychecks. Once we got engaged, I had my paycheck direct deposited into the savings and FH uses his to pay all our bills, allocates spending money for each of us for the week, and whatever other activites come up. Basically the savings account is a one way account, the money goes in and does not come out unless it is for the wedding or the house (in the future)...It is very hard living on an 'allowance' when you're 28...I've had to make some adjustments on how I spend 'my allowance'......now that summer is coming...I don't know how I'll be able to budget for a wardrobe...
