Saving money.. How are you doing with that??

Original post by SIBride06

Hi ladies.

Have you ever sat down to really think about how expensive our wedding will be??? The wedding alone is costing us a fortune.. Im not even counting in all the money we have to spend to furnish our apartment when the time comes.. and OMG.. its only 20 more months until I get married!!! Thank god for bridal showers!!!

Have you ladies drastically cut corners to save for this joyous event?? What are your saving secrets???

And the BIG question...

Has anyone set any finanical goals ( etc.. June I want to have so & so in the bank... Dec 31st.. I want to have $$$ in the bank). Were these goals met??? If not.. How did you feel?? My FI & I hit a dry period (savings wise). Im just hoping to reach our finanical goal by the end of this year or I will seriously go out of my mind!!

Am I making any sense??

since i'm not making a lot of money right now, i've been even saving my change. after my coin jar gets pretty full, i go to the local commerce bank and put it into the penny arcade. it's a good way to save a little without too much effort.

LOL I am doing the same thing...I have a bank for change and a separate one for pennies!!!! It really adds up!

I do the same thing!! I cashed in $420 the other day!

FH & I have a joint account & he puts in $500. a week for our wedding/hm fund. I've been handling the apt. expenses. He's been trying to work a lot of OT to bring us above that total weekly.

But its been hard b/c we just moved to a new apt. & he had to have his 57 in. TV & we just bought a new LR set & just the minor expenses with a new place.

But I think we'll be fine.

We've also been saving change, but he said that will be saved for a weekend away or such.

We opened an ING account when we got engaged and have been saving a set amount each month. We have just about half of the wedding saved for already. It really does help. You might want to consider it creatinga joint account and setting a specific amount that each of you have to put in each month.
