i hate to admit it, but a major fear i have is terrorism. i just feel that if someone wanted to blow up a subway or bus, there isnt much anyone can do about it. i am surprised it hasnt happened yet. i feel terrible for thinking that.

You can't let that hold you back...I mean think about it this way, you are more likely to get into an accident on a highway than being on a subway that gets blown up. I have to take the PATH train at world trade center everyday.

I work in midtown and live in Nassau. I do this commute five days a week. It was scary at first, and you might make a few 'commuting mistakes' in the beginning, but after a month you will be a pro. I love to drive, but now I have become an avid reader and I have my commute down to a science.

Plus the pay is typically a lot higher (for my field anyway) in the city vs. long island. That reason alone made me take a job in the city.

Go for it!

Don't be afraid to admit it. I feel the same way and still struggle with thoughts of this while on my commute. The only thing I can say is you can't let the fear of dying cripple your ability to live. I do suggest being more aware of your surroundings. I find when I have a bad feeling about something, my gut instinct is usually right.

And as the LIRR says....'If you see something, say something.'

I think I know their whole speech by heart. Hearing it everyday for 5 years, I better know it!

I grew up in Queens, so I took the subway my whole life...you totally get used to it. You'll get to the point where you can sit down, fall asleep and wake up JUST before your stop comes up!

I loved taking the train (LIRR) to my city job. LOVED IT! It was forced relaxation time. I would read a magazine, cover to cover, nap, catch up on things.... It was awesome...

I live in Holbrook (61 off LIE). I drive to Ronkonkoma and take the LIRR EVERYDAY! I work at a law firm near Bloomingdales (perk) and have to take a subway as well. I wont lie, it does get fustrating waking up so early and having to rely on the train. I do get to sleep on the train and read and relax so I can get more things done when I get home from work because I have already wound down from my long day. It only becomes a problem when the LIRR has problems but for the most part, you will meet people on the train that have been doing it for 10+ years. The $$ I make in the city is 3X more than what I would make on the island, so I dont mind.
