I remember Mr. Harper giving us a 'pop' quiz everytime the Giants lost.

I remember Mr. Hottinger picking up desks and throwing them with students in them

I remember Mr. Worm reassigning seats after a quiz and he would assign people to the 'no hope in life row' and the 'dumb row'

Mr. Harper, and Mr. Worm...SWAGS..did you go to Northport???
I had both of these teachers..uuuuugh

When I went to Saxton Middle school in Patchogue, I was in a play and I was standing behind stage and everyone was talking but I was the only quiet one but the teacher who was in charge of the techies (not the director) pulled me by hair and pushed me into the wall and threw me out of the play. I was so devasted because I NEVER did anything wrong. My mom was furious and called to complain, he never got written up but I will never forget that mean man who is STILL a teacher.

All the kids rushed to my defense and said I wasn't the one who was talking, I was let back in the play and that teacher was so nice after my mom gave him an earfull. But if that was nowadays, forget, I would think it would have got some attention.

i had mr. harper and mr. worm too! i actually transferred out of worm's class halfway through the year b/c i was failing. funnily enough the next quarter i had a 90+ average in math. gee wonder who the problem was there?

my 8th grade science teacher told us we would all be pumping gas for a living.

ahhh the good ole days

I'm a teacher -- I've asked children to redo assignments when they were incorrect or unacceptable and parents have called and written letters to my principal and superintendant. It is VERY difficult to teach today...parents think they know more than teachers. Once upon a time, teachers were well respected (not justifying the horrific stories you've written) but today, many look upon us as 'those who couldn't'
What a shame...

In elementary school we had to go to the nurses office, strip down to a bathing suit and then have a scoliosis test.

In 10th grade math the teacher would throw erasers and chalk at students that were acting up.

The only really horrible school memory I have (well, involving teachers, at least) was 10th grade - he told us we were all going to fall the regents and that we were stupid and should have never passed 'grammar school'

Way to raise your students self esteem, Mr. Ledices (sp?)

i agree w/ you. back in the day most of us 'feared' getting in trouble knowing that our parents would side w/ the teacher/principal or ANY elder over us. nowadays, it's the child and parents that are 'always' right. god forbid we scold a child, or utter a negative comment to a parent.

The scoliosis test must have been a LI thing, b/c in queens grammar school we never had this. (thanfully)

I remember the scoliosis test. It was a good thing that my best friend was tested as a kid. she wore a back brace throughout elementary school and had surgery in 10th grade and now she is okay.

I had a band director, who we all loved, but was insane. He would climb up on top of the instrument lockers and throw milk duds at kids to get them to pay attention. When it got bad, he would throw his conductor's baton or his music stand. He conducted from on top of the lockers. Great teacher, everyone loved him, a little on the eccentric side. A new teacher would never get away with that kind of stuff

Oooh - you just reminded me of one of my band teachers - Mr. Katz. He would scream at us at the top of his lungs and his face would turn beat red. Scary!!!!

And in 9th(?) grade, we did blood type testing in Biology. We actually pricked each other's fingers and took blood samples!!!

I remember my one of my brother's elem school teachers would make him sit under his desk - he was hyperactive and she would say to him 'If you're going to act like a dog, go sit under the desk like a dog!'

This happened to a boy practically everyday when I was in kindergarten with Ms. Lipman and we only went for half a day (but he had to sit under her desk, what was going on under there?)!! Could he have been that bad?

In 9th grade Mrs. Maimooni told my mother that I wasn't always going to get by in my life by being popular so I had better do something with my education.

I knew a kid like this in 4th grade. He would crawl around on his hands and knees and bark like a dog, so the teacher told him to sit under the desk.

This is all insane! My teachers were nothing like this at all, and I am 26 (maybe it is a LI thing? I went to school in NJ and CT)...Though in boarding school in CT there was a great deal of hazing of younger students that the administration definitely knew about and did nothing to stop. Some of the hazing of guys got so violent one freshmand broke his arm.

10th grade Mr. Oneill, my Latin teacher tells me since he can't hear me when he calls on me, (I didn't like speaking in front of the class)I should stand on top of my desk so my voice would project. He insisted quite a few times until I took my stuff and walked out. What an a$$!!
