Scissor happy anyone?

Original post by Goldie39

Here's another question for you lovely ladies.
I notice that there seems to be a trend that after you get married, you get a newly wed chop. Do u plan on doing this and what are your honest opinions about it? No hard feelings!

Re: Scissor happy anyone?

I am doing a 'newlywed chop' -- I have always had long hair (past my shoulders) but decided to grow it out for the wedding, because I wanted to wear it curly and still have it be long. My hair was all mine -- no extensions -- and I was very happy with how it looked.

However, it is way too long right now!!! I hate it and really need a change. I'm going to do more of a chop than I normally would because this is the longest my hair has ever been since middle school, and I really like the idea of donating it to something like Locks of Love or Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I admit I'm a little selfish, and while I had enough hair in the past to do it, it would have left me with a bob and I hate the way I look with short hair.

I'm waiting until I'm back in NY for thanksgiving, and then I plan to chop off 8 inches and donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths (they make wigs for cancer patients). I'm hoping it will leave me with shoulder length hair, and my hair grows quickly so it will grow back soon if I hate it. I know my hair will never be this long again, so I feel like this is the best time for me to do it.

pic 1 = 8/18/07, our e-party, right before i started growing my hair out for the wedding
pic 2 = 8/16/08, our rehearsal dinner, my hair being insanely long (longer when it's totally straight!)
pic 3 = 8/17/08, my wedding hair

dont even know if i have any current pictures but i still have not had a haircut since the wedding, and it will be 2 more months tomorrow! i cant wait to chop off 8 inches

I will not being doing the newly wed chop. I think short hair looks sexy on some women but I don't have the head for it..lol. I cut my hair on impulse not too long ago and FH nearly had a stroke. I'm growing it out now and only plan to get my regular trims.

I think it's nice when people get it cut to donate to charity but i never heard of the newly wed chop until I came on LIW, and it almost seemed like a passage into newlywed-ism (i just created a new word..lol)

i didnt do it to do the typical newlywed action, actually that was one reason i was thinking i shouldn't do it.

I grew my hair out for my wedding and didnt get regular cuts. Not only that but at the end of 07 i dyed my hair red and then dyed it back to blonde just a month or less actually before the wedding. I can say my hair was fried and just so horrible. During the HM i would sit there doing my hair for the longest time, which i never do bc 5 mins is long enough . No matter what i did it just looked real bad. My hair had no style at all, no body, so many split ends and no matter what it wasnt looking good at all, my hair was pathetic. So yes i chopped it off when i got back from HM. I dont regret this decision at all and have continued going back to get trims so i keep it short. My hair looks 100x more stylish than it did when it was long and lifeless, i have baby fine hair not nice thick hair like others so thats why. PLUS i like to change my look often, i get very bored. I had long hair for the past few years. I have dyed my hair a couple of times to change it up but even that alone sometimes isn't enough. So i wanted a different look and not to mention how healthy it looks. I loved victoria beckhams hair and went for it. But even now i want to try something else so might do red again.

also dh likes it alot, he says he likes girls with short hairs bc only some can pull it off so if they can pull off short hair then its good in his book but he also thought my hair was looking like it had no style at all and always frizzy and nasty so he prefers that i actually have a nice cut and a bit more trendy. But he also loves that i also change my hair color alot and like to play around.

I also always go back and forth and have ALWAYS done this since i was a young teenager. I let it grow long and then chop it all off and the cycle continues, i do it every so often. So wasnt just bc i was a newlywed but i get bored and need change

i know im itching to go back to red now but when i was a teenager, for a while i had short red hair so i dont want to remind ppl of how i looked when i was a teenager

But i have to at least go back for a trim, I want it done this way EXACTLY which the first time they did but recently the one who cut my hair wasnt in and somebody else did it, but didnt come out the same.

i dont know why but i love this cut

Denise, I like your hair blonde and the good thing is that you would look nice with either long or short hair. I totally commend you on cutting it since it was damaged. Coloring really takes it's toll on hair. I put gold streaks all over in my hair before and it was NOT a good thing. I have a physical attatchment to long hair though, i don't know why. it's like walking past a mirror and looking at your butt..lol. I like to walk past a mirror and see my hair past my shoulders. FH makes fun of me saying that I have a peanut head, but i think that just his way of trying to make me keep my hair long.

Lila, your hair looks gorgeous! Donate that stuff right over this way! lol.

no way am I cutting my hair. I had it really long in high school and jr year of college i decided to cut it all off - just above my shoulders. i looked awful. i haven't really cut my hair since then, just trims - no more than an inch each time. now it's about halfway down my back and i plan on keeping it that way.

I like it blonde too but have had it blonde a majority of the time the past years. I did have it red not long ago and i did LOOOOVE it red i have to say, i had red hair most of my teenage years too up until about 19 thats when i went blonde. The only reason i went back to blonde for the wedding is bc red fades very quickly and even if i matched my extensions to my hair the week beforre, a week later the extensions and my hair could've been completely different so i was scared. Otherwise DH does prefer the red, hes not a big fan of blondes but doesnt hate it on me at least hahaha. But ill do it for a couple of months red, then i'll just go back, so blonde hair will always still be something i do but i just dont like to do it continuously, i feel like after a while looking at pics i never change haha. Plus i love a fresh new haircut when the bottom looks so healthy and perfectly cut and you have hair that looks like you just walked out of a salon. Yeah my long hair never looked like that haha

Hey i have a big head and everybody makes fun of me bc of it, even dh teases me.

i like BRIGHT red though, which i love, this was end of last year around november of 07. That sweater dress kept falling on top so dont mind the exposure, i was pulling it up all night hahaa

awww thank you so much yeah i love that shade, the only problem with red is it fades so quick. It was even a bit darker than that but a week later it got lighter and within a month looked more like strawberry blonde. Red is actually more of an upkeep than blonde which is the only problem.

My hair's getting kind of long and I kinda want to cut it now...but I'm afraid it will look horrible!!

I have issues with changing my hair- I'm always afraid to do it..not like hair doesnt grow back or anything.

Re: Scissor happy anyone?

i'm chopping it!

as a teenager it used to be down to almost my *** and i cut it all off through out the years. about 3 years ago i went really short (for me) and I loved it!!!!!!! now it's past my shoulders and i'm not used it but i'm gonna continue to grow it to have more options for day of style.

it's so much easir to take care of it when it's short plus easier to work with :)

i would love to because i have been dying to get the ' posh ' style hair cut , but by the time my wedding comes around i dont think thats gonna be in style anymore lol, but maybe i'll just do some layers. plus by then i will finally have my hair very long ( growing it for the wedding) , so i prob wont want to cut it after waiting so long for it to grow !
