For your additional deposits after you booked the hall, are you allowed to use a credit card for the payments? I just found out Chateau Briand doesn’t allow that yet it doesn’t state it in the contract. I am going to home and re-read the contract but I am pretty sure it doesn’t say anything about that except for the final payment.
Any CB brides had the same problem? This is really annoying as I wanted to put a payment on Amex to get miles and I can’t do that.

Were told that the deposit could be credit card, the payments should be check or cash and the final payment must be cash. This was at Westbury Manor, a Scotto Brothers hall

I was only allowed to make deposit by credit card. Everything else was only cash or check.

We were able to make the deposit with a cc but all payments had to be made in check or money order. Final payment is cash!

I understand the reasons why they don't take cc's after the first payment. I just think its ridiculous.

I asked when we signed the contract and only the initial deposit was accepted. cc companies charge a fee, thats why most places don't want to accept them, or limit the amount that you can pay with one.

Only the deposit could be on a credit card. The other payments should be check or cash. Edited cause I just read what the BM wrote down and cash or certified check are good for the last payment.

I gave the final payment as a certified check. Cash was too easy for them and I bet they take it righ under the table. I told them if I pay you cash then I don't want to be taxed.

The blah blah excuse FH was given (he called our BM) is that if anything is to happen at the wedding or say we are dissatisfied with the service we could dispute the charge and etc. etc. I don’t see what the big deal is in them accepting a cc if they get charged for it by the credit card company. As many weddings and events Scotto Bros halls hold, they still make TONS of money off of us!
Kathy do you pay for a certified check? I asked about the cash and no tax deal. I didn’t even finish my sentence and he said NO!

I paid by certified check for the last payment. The payments before that I just handed them a personal check which was fine. The last payment has to be either cash or certified check. There was in no way I was paying them cash for the last payment.

But do you have to pay your bank to issue a certified check? I don't plan on giving them all that cash either. I need documentation, a copy, a something.

I don't remember. Usually certified checks are $10.
They give you a receipt and everything though. I made sure the check was made out to Chateau Briand.

I think the reasoning is....so that they can pocket the cash without having to pay the taxes. If you pay cash they can adjust their books to knock off guests. If you pay by credit card or check there is a hardcopy trail of the payment. A lot of restaurants and bars do this as well.

As everyone else said no cc but my DJ had told me how to get around that so we could still get points on our card, you know those checks your cc card send you int he mail use those and it will be billed to your card but it looks liek a regular check to the hall.

When we paid initial deposit at WM we paid by credit card and were told before we signed the contract all remining deposits had to be piad by check. Kinda a shocker b/c we weren't expecting that but we really didn't know too much about wedding planning at the time either. I think alot of halls do this though.
