i'm getting ready to print up my seating cards and typically people do the whole 'mr & mrs so-and-so' and I'm just wondering, would it be really bad if I put people's first names, like 'joe & jane smith'? is that really tacky? TIA!

I don't see a problem with it, but that is just me..I have seen Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith if you want a compromise

Mr. & Mrs. is used for a formal reception.
For informal, you can use Joe & Jane Smith

If it goes with the feel of your wedding, I think you can address them however you would like.

No. I think it depends on how formal you want to be--it's all up to you. I've even heard of people using first names only, or nicknames, which could be cute.

I think you can do whatever feels comfortable. Could you imagine some old cougar saying 'How tacky no Mr and Mrson the place cards!'
Sorry I am a bit giddy today! I do think it is fine!

I think the most important thing is that you are consistent with it
if you are going to put Jack & Jill Smith -- you have to do it for everyone...and vice versa

Randi your day is so close!!!
Not tacky at ALL..... Infact, mine was so casual it's not even funny. (ok maybe it is ) Our seating cards were poker chips, so we didn't have a lot of room to work with - so we threw all formality out the window. There was no Mr. and Mrs., everyone got there own chip - and I didn't even use people's full names if they don't go by that. i.e. Jim instead of James, Mike, Rob etc....
Do whatever you feel comfortable with - believe me, nobody's going to say 'You had a beautiful wedding, but really, I didn't like the placecards.' LOL
Good luck!!

so what do you put when the couple is not married, or if they are just friends...
Mr. John Doe and Ms. Jane Doe or Mr. John Doe and Guest
