Seating Chart

Seating Chart

Hi ladies,

Just wanted to know if it is absolutely necessary to have a seating chart?

I prefer for my guests to sit wherever and with whomever they prefer but my mom and fiance think this is too weird. Plus i don't want to stress out and figure out who will be sitting with who.

Any comments/ suggestions??

thanks !

Re: Seating Chart

Here is the thing. I went to a wedding once and there was no seating chart, it was 'every man for himself'. It got people 'stranded' sitting in places with people they did NOT know.

I think you are better off making a seating chart in my opinion.

I used the seating chart on wedding wire and it was AMAZING!!

Good luck to you.

Re: Seating Chart

This was the only disagreement my husband and I had before the wedding. He really didn't see the purpose in having seating charts. He came around and finally agreed to it.

There are so many reasons seating is important. I'm not saying you have to put the place cards on the tables and tell people who to sit next to, but grouping people in 8 - 12 person groups is very important.

My step-mom had the most convincing argument about it. If you do not give out escort cards, people will be asking THE BRIDE where to sit. No one wants to deal with 100 people saying 'where do you want me to sit' on their wedding day. It will make people uncomfortable and awkward.

Additionally, you pay at RHs by the person. If you are having a menu, you need to have tables so the orders can be taken properly. We had a buffet, which is why DH didn't think we needed assigned tables. If we had not chosen tables for people, there would've been 15 people at some and 4 at others. It would've been awful, disorganized, and crowded.

If you're only having 50 people at your wedding and getting married in someone's backyard, you may not need to have seating assignments. It would be a very casual, lovely wedding. But for a Long Island wedding where you're likely spending $20k plus for the one day, it's important to have organization so everyone can have a stress-free, pleasant experience. I agree with your mom and fiance. Take your time, but plan on making a table chart once you have your RSVPs. It's very much worth it.

I was at a wedding with no seating charts and it was a free for all disaster, especially with family tables.
