Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
My mother is throwing my FH an engagement party in October. We have over 100 people so far and it's in a hall. Should I have a seating chart for an event like this or should I just let the guests choose where they want to sit

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
Im doing mine very informal...just let them sit where they want. You have to go through that misery with the seating chart later ...dont worry about it now..Thats the way I look at it!

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
That's how I feel -I mean I am more about having a good time with fam and friends. I just want it to be a relaxing and memorable evening. Plus with all the other planning that we're doing right now, I'm not sure I can swing the additional stress! Thanks!!!

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
trust me when i tell youyou want to do a seating chart
there are a bunch of threads on here about it and i am going to search them for you but what happens is that people never know where to sit. .
and then you have a family of four come in and they cant sit together bc people always spread out all over teh tables . . .
and you have people are so hesitant to sit they are standing awkwardly for hours
it is a BIG pain - i know, but do it!

Couldn't AGREE more!!!
ETA: I'm having about 125 people at mine next weekend and I'm definitely doing a seating chart. The last thing you want is both your families meeting for the first time then being bitter about how someone stole their table or seat, etc. Not good first impression!

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
For 100 people I think you should have a seating chart. I think it is easier for your guest to have a table already picked out.

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
Ours was in a hall and we did placecards. We did it because it was the first time both our families would be together and didn't want anyone to be left out and feel uncomfortable.

Re: Seating Charts for an Engagement Party
Definitely do a seating chart!!!! FH's family gets spread out all over the place when we go to parties with no seating arrangements. You don't necessarily have to do placecards....for my sisters shower I found some cute cardstock and put the table # on top and then the list of who was supposed to sit at that table underneath....it saved me the headache of being the hostess and having everyone ask me where they should sit.
