Security Blanket???

Security Blanket???

I was thinking about giving Emma a soft toy that she can become attached to (a security blanket). I want her to have something that she can turn to when she wakes up in the middle of the night and she is scared so she can sooth herself and go back to sleep. Right now she does fall back to sleep but as she gets older I fear that things are going to change (when she learns of the boogie man ) Does anyone have any that they give their little ones OR should I not give her anything and let her learn that she doesnt need to rely on anything but herself and her mommy/daddy?

I have had the same Teddy Bear since I was 6 months old. I still sleep with it. It only has one eye (the dog got to it when I was little) and it is barely stuffed anymore but I love my Teddy.

I think all children take differently to that stuff. My brother and sister have nothing like a security blanket/toy and never did and I am 32 and still love mine. I personally do not think it is a bad thing to have. My Mom didn't give me the toy for it to become something special. She just saw it in the sale bin at Sears and put it under the Christmas tree. I think your child will adopt a toy/blanket to become something special for themselves if they need or want that.

I think that some children can be taught to have a 'lovey' as it is called in the book 'The No-Cry Sleep Solution.' I have been contemplating introducing a bedtime pal to Paul as a way to get him comfortable w/his new room and new crib and not having Mommy & Daddy in the same room w/him. I do not think it is a bad idea, but I also am not sure if it is necessary either. I have not made up my mind yet.

Claud - I have the same book... where do you think my idea and dilema came from??? I also have a Caters 'lovey' (pink blanket with a binny head and arms) for Emma... I dont know if I should have it between us when we nurse, bring it in the car, tuck her in with it to make her feel more comfortable. Its not like she has ANY anxiety. She loves strangers and does not cry when I leave. I guess Im just trying to give myself something to stress about.

Justin has a blankie (which he calls E). He does not go anywhere without this. He sleeps with it and carrie sit all day. It always has to be with him, but he is okay with leaving it in the car when we go places. I have a backup just in case, however, when I bring it out - he will not go anywhere near it. I guess it doesn't have that 'smell'
