Security Settings

Security Settings

I was just notified that on FB they have set up this thing called indexing where if you put your name into google everything that's on fb comes up. The nature of my job requires me to keep information about my personal life confidential. I had the highest security settings on my fb account to avoid any issues. So just a heads up if this is a concern for any of you, to adjust your security settings today.

Also, I just noticed that when I typed in my name to google....all of my nyc/liwedding info came up with my fiance's name, our wedding date etc... Does anyone know how to update these security settings? I don't want to have to delete my account :o(

i don't know anything about security settings....but you could just put in your first initials and take out your wedding date....i don't think you'd have to delete your account...

Re: Security Settings

just remove your information from LIW...

as for FB, if you go to your privacy settings and click on search... this message pops up

Worried about search engines? Your information is safe.
There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. They will still only see a basic set of information

Yep, Facebook announced changes to their Privacy settings a few days ago.

To protect your account on Facebook and NOT have it show up on a Google search, do the following:

- go to Settings tab
- click Search-->Privacy
- the next screen should show a white page with a blue sentence saying 'Facebook allows users to be located on internet web sites,,etc, etc'. Next to it there is a box that asks 'ALLOW INDEXING'??

- UNCHECK the box that says 'Allow Indexing', and then click SAVE.

Thanks! I will have to do that. I am concerned about my wedding page which really *****..I was hoping to keep that for my guests but I don't think there is anyway to really keep that private without putting our names...maybe I can take our last names off there??

It's not true .... when I went to change the settings, FB specifically addressed that saying that they do NOT share your info (just your name with a link to your FB page) ...

Thanks anyway though :)

I don't think you can...if you take your last name off, people won't be able to search for your registry.

I have the same problem..TheWeddingChannel lists all my registries and my wedding website (which is still terribly unedited and in its raw stages). I'm not sure how to stop Google from listing it..I don't mind too much advertising my wedding date, venue or our names. I haven't uploaded any pictures so far.

contact Client Services and ask them to remove it.
