Seeing each other before

Seeing each other before

Hi...We are getting married on site so our guests will go right to the cocktail hour which does not leave us alot of time to take pics if we want to enjoy our own CH and see some guests then. The photographer suggests doing pics before hand but I am having a hard time letting go of the tradition of not seeing one another before. People who have done it said that it was still special walking down the aisle and they enjoyed the relaxed time before...Any thoughts? Thanks!

We are taking our photos prior to the ceremony also. I was not crazy about the idea but if we wait we will not have enough sunlight for outdoor photos together. So before the ceremony it is...I have heard that it is actually a really beautiful moment when you see each other for the 1st time because there are no guests around, just you, FH, photo and video guy. We are doing our photos in private, without anyone else around. And everyone assured me that it does not change the walk down the aisle at all.

It was a very special time to be able to see my husband for pics and for time alone before the ceremony. We spent a good 45 minutes together, and even though the photogpaphers were there, we didn't even notice. I'll always remember the feelings that I had then. And, it's just a preview to walking down the aisle and then standing next to your man, which is the climax to it all! Everything goes so fast, I don't have any regrets about doing it that way.

Re: Seeing each other before

Ideally I'd like to see each other the first time at the ceremony but when weighted against the fact that we absolutely wanted to be at our cocktail hour and we didn't want our guests waiting around - there was no competition. So our photos will be pre-ceremony.

So many brides tell me I will be glad I did it this way.

We are not seeing each other prior, and we will take pictures during the cocktail hour - marrying a VERY traditional guy!

My FH and I are seeing each other before as well. I had a very tough time with it at first, but we thought of a nice way of presenting me to my groom to make it a special moment. We are starting our pictures at my FMIL's house (I'm sleeping there the night before). Our photographer will take shots of me getting ready and then a couple of shots with my BMs. My FH will arrive 15 min. prior to the limo pickup - he will wait for me at the bottom of the stairs. We will have the bridesmaids on one side and groomsmen on the other, and I will walk down the stairs. I think it will be a very touching moment and the best part is that he grew up in the house where I will walk down the stairs, making it even more special to us. From there will will go to our official photography site, then take separate cars to the chapel. Only 6 more months to go for us!! Good luck to you!

I refuse (and he feels the same) that we should not see each other before. I am very traditional & I guess he is too.
I want him to see me for the first time walking up the aisle like I always dreamed!
I also don't want people seeing us untill our big introduction into the hall, but that's just my feelings.
Whatever you decide, good luck!

I ws just wondering for you ladies doing it before hand.. isn't it wierd to have 'wedding pictures' when you aren't wearing wedding rings??? just wondering because I just thought about it.

Re: Seeing each other before

My husband and I decided to have pics done before so that we could enjoy our cocktail hour. If I had it to do again I would do the same. We made it special by arranging with our photographers and catering hall to make sure that it was just the two of us. My husband then stood at the entrance to the gazebo and I came up from behind. The photographer then told him to turn around and they took a picture of him seeing me for the first time. He cried. I will treasure that photo always. My husband would never have done that if the first glance was in front of all our guests (Mr. Tough Guy thing). He was much more open and emotional than he would have been with everyone watching. We also took some pics during the cocktail hour but we were also able to be with our guests. If you set it up right you can make that moment completely special.

I didn't think of that until recently, the fact that my FH won't be wearing his ring, mine won't be that noticeable if we take pics beforehand. It doesn't worry me, I want to enjoy our cocktail hour and our 'married' pic can be taken at the cocktail hour too. I won't sweat the small stuff!!

My FH and I are seeing each other before. We are being married at Flowerfield so, there is no time for pics between the ceremony and cocktail hour. So, we decided to do it before hand. We havent planned out how we will see each other yet, but now I am excited because it will be just us. I think this is very romantic. Then, it will still be amazing when I walk up the aisle to him.

We are also getting the pictures done before. My FH refused to give up the cocktail hour (he didnt want to miss all the food!!).
Anyway, I wasnt really into the idea at first, but it was the only thing my FH was really adamant about, so I compromised.
When I think about it, Im kinda glad in a way, because Im hoping that it will help with my nervousness of going down the aisle.

I am not very traditional...so I had no problem deciding to take pics before...I even think it is VERY special doing it this way...It will be a private moment for us...

In addition I thought it would help me relax...

Re: Seeing each other before

I think that he might faint when he sees me for the first time, so it's much safer that we're doing our pics before :)
I think that it'll be nice after the initial 'wow' to have another hour just to ourselves...
Plus I'm not missing cocktail hour either.
It will cut back on me having to go wround to all the tables during the reception.

I am not seeing FH before, but I have heard many positive thngs about seeing each other before. Including that a good photographer will take a shot of him when he first lays eyes on you, if they plan it right - that could be so nice. good luck.

I feel just like you lltravis. I didn't want to see my FH either but all photographers suggest it. I guess we paid so much for the darn cocktail hour we might as well be part of it. I think we will see each other before but try to make it special in some way. Just know that no matter when you see each other it'll be your special day and what matters is the marriage not just one day (althought that one day is really fun planning, .

I had a hard time getting over the whole tradition thing too. But when it came down to it we realized that we would be missing out on our own cocktail hour and time that we could be spending with our guests all because of tradition. We chose to see each other for pictures before. We are going to seperate the night before and get ready with our bridal party. The surprise will be when we see each otehr for the first time at the hall.

We're dong pics before the ceremony as well. We're having a nice cocktail hour outside by the pool at the Crest Hollow Country Club. We're paying so much money for this and we really don't want to miss out. I think it will be a special moment we will share before the ceremony. We will still take a few pics during the cocktail hr., but a majority before the ceremony.
