Re: Seeing each other before the ceremony?

I debated if i wanted to do this or not after my photographer tried desperatley to convince me... but im NOT doing it! I def dont think its a bad decision to do it... actually its prob more practical... but I dont want to have any regrets at our wedding and I know that seeing me walk down the aisle in my dress for the first time is a big thing for both FH and I.

FH & I are doing this. We were bummed at first but - we'll be at the RH for the ceremony at 4 so there will be plenty of time for pictures before the ceremony...

Just told the photographers I need them to capture that moment when FH sees me for the first time in my wedding gown ;)

Yes before, with the entire BP for an intimate reveal and pics. Also like someone else said I want to spend as much of the day with fh as possible and just in general extend the day......I know it will fly by. As it is my ceremony at the RH isn't until 6:30 so I miss the time the earlier brides have.

Im actually looking very forward to this time. I think it will be special to have the time with just our closest family and friends.

Its funny bc when I started I was adamantly against this but now it makes sense for us.

Re: Seeing each other before the ceremony?

We're doing this so we can have some photos complete before the ceremony. We'll be having out photog coordinate a 'reveal' for us. I'm all for traditions, but rules are made to be broken Additionally, this tradition is rooted in the days of arranged marriages (well, those still exist...but it's rooted in the time when arranged marriages were the norm) and became such so that if the groom saw the bride beforehand and found her unattractive, he could back out of the partnership. Not seeing the bride before the ceremony meant that the groom would be stuck with her, even if he found her to be FUGLY.

All in all, it's a weird background that a lot of people don't even read into when quick to shun the idea of seeing each other before the ceremony.

Yes, definitely. It's a Jewish ceremony, so we have to sign the Ketubah before the actual wedding. I also want to take pics beforehand when it's light out, and we can all enjoy the CH.

I'm doing the SAME!

I'm doing this...we want to do all pictures before the ceremony so that we can be there for the entire cocktail hour.

that's really interesting!

to answer the question, we're still undecided! Since we're getting married in Dec, the sun will set early, and I'd like to get some pix during daylight, but I don't know if I want to see FH b4 the church ahh

We did it and I highly recommend it! It was still special and very intimate (parents and bridal party were there). Plus the photographer still captured the reveal on camera. Also, I have to say it did ease the nerves and totally set us at ease to enjoy the rest of the day and ceremony later. Plus it gaves the opportunity to talk and tell each other how great we looked & how excited we were. I was totally against this at first, but in the end it was what worked best for us!

yes I don't want to miss 1 minute of the cocktail hour or reception.

Our banquet manager suggested this so that we can parttake in the cocktail hour but I feel that it takes away from the first time he sees you at the alter. We are definetly waiting till the ceremony to see each other. I mean to each it's own.. whatever works for you, you know!!

Re: Seeing each other before the ceremony?

we're getting married at the rh but for a while i was pretty sure i did NOT want to see each other before. but as its getting so close now, i had a sudden random change of heart and feel like i really WANT to do an intimate reveal with just the two of us before hand now! then we can take pics and calm down and ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY. i want to mingle and celebrate with our guests as much as we possibly can during the small window we have with them.
i have decided however to not tell alot of people... i know everyone is entitled to their opinion, i would just rather not hear it.
haha
ESP his mom!!! (aka my monster-in-law) she gets to find out that day.
hehehehe

we didnt - but DH & I are very traditional & old school when it comes to things like that...

it's personal preference...do what you & FH want to do

Re: Seeing each other before the ceremony?

We are. But it's a Jewish wedding and that's more common. We are still debating with our parents to do cocktail hour after the ceremony. They are stuck on having cocktail hour first. That was more common when they got maried 25+ years ago. We want ceremony first so we can enjoy at least some of the CH.
